I've been reading - always a dangerous pastime!

Anyway - I've read a couple of his January suggested recipes - citrus wine being one, and the barley wine being the other, that caught my interest.

Has anyone tried either? And if so, what were the results like?

Thanks!

Its a matter of taste really all his recipes are good its whether you just like em, or love em and want to do em again, you've just gotta try em and see, unless someone gives you one ready made to try.
I might love a wine that you cant stand and vice versa..

Thanks - I wasn't sure whether to give them both a go, but why not eh? (its rare for me to really dislike any wine anyway! did I really just admit that!!!!!)

yes its on public record now ha ha ha,

have you a son called murphy? or is it something else like like a play on words ie murphy's law?

Its a bit of both - I have a cat called Murphy who was so named after the law - and because he's kinda like a pint of Murphy's - black and poured slow! (not the sharpest tool in the box as far as cats go)

Nice one, :thumb:
we got two cats mum and son, mostly black with little white bits on paws n neck, usually curled up all day this time o year but mostly out at the moment with the warm weather!

Try the wines and let us know how you get on.

I'm doing a wheat n rice one at the moment similar to the barley wine recipe.

That sounds interesting - I've fancied having a go at a rice wine myself. I remember sneaking a sip of my Grandad's rice when when I was an ankle biter and while I cant remember the actual taste I do remember being caught and trying to charm my way out of it by telling him it was even better than Ribena!

here is the recipe I'm doing

1kg Wheat
1kg Rice
2l water
250g sultanas
1kg sugar
1tsp yeast
1tsp yeast nutrient
3 bag mug o tea
3 tbsp lemon juice

cook rice in pan for 10 mins, with 1 litre water, crush wheat and add to rice and transfer to FV, pour over 1 litre boiling water, add campden tab and pectolase and leave to cool overnight then add yeast etc then fit airlock, stir the top of the must into the liquid daily for a week then rack off pulp into a dj and top off with water when calmed down.

started mine on 13 dec transferred to dj on 20dec but bubbles slowing down nicely now.

Thanks for that - hope you don't mind but I've copied it into a recipe word doc. so I can use it in the future when a free dj is available!

Please feel free me dear it was posted to share :thumb:

it can take a while to clear, I think because of starch in rice n wheat but the last one I did a couple of years ago went down really well so I thought I'd do it again.

I once made the elderberry extatic recipe, I made a 5 gallon batch back in 1999 and it was ready the year later and finished within a week or two with everyone wanting more.
