As an aside. The Wise One is French and her father was a policeman (guardian de la paix it was then, I haven't heard of them since I've been over here) part of his regular duties was to do one or two shifts a week at the cinema. Just to show a presence. There was never any trouble apparently, so it was probably as much a perk as a duty.
