I might get a brew on tomorrow morning... But I'm on agile and it'll go to negative 4p/kWh evening, so I'll get paid to turn the fan heaters on!
Definitely looking like brewing tomorrow now. Electricity is free until 10am. And I'll fill the battery up too so the rest of the brew can come from the battery

You persuaded me :D . I modified by Tesla tariff, will see if it charges the battery at that time. Two hours is sufficient time window for me to charge the battery from 40% to 100%. Will see how the battery behaves (fingers crossed)

Really?! What output does your charger have?

Just under 6 kW

I managed to pull a steady 12kW for the 2 hours so saved just over a fiver, for the time of day.

It's not really that though, as it was all charging car and batteries and I would have done that on cheap rate normally so only really saved £1.68 I guess. Didn't have the stamina to put a brew on at 7am or put the chicken in early.

Overnight charge of the battery, heating up the brewing water and electric heaters during free electricity.
Brewed in the cheap hours whilst Bert is battering us, along with a cooked breakfast
Finished and cleaned up. Battery at full charge.

Total cost for the day. Negative 4p. 👌

I have one of those small pink octopus mini dongle thingies
Just signed up for one, it'll be useful to compare in real time against the Givenergy data to make sure what's being billed is what's expected. It complicated enough without having to try to view what happened in the past and compare it.

Not that I don't trust my smart meter, it appears to count in my favour a little when I have made retrospective comparisons, but I have heard of some others instances of billing errors, mainly due to installation issues like CT's on backwards etc. I think, so if you don't check it you'll never know.

If you're North of a line, running East - West in line with The Humber, there's a good chance you're smart meter won't work sometimes - or ever. As they use a proprietary radio system, billed as 'working better over the hills', rather than cellular data comms, (that's used South of this line).

I'm well North, but fortunately still have an old 'spinning dial' meter.

Having solar panels, I should try to make hayzey beer while the sun shines.

Maybe a new thread then, for any working smart meters, north of the Humber.

Octopus charged me circa £1 for the free energy on 24th November. Guess I need to call them and ask why and how come…

You normally get a rebate after the fact. Often takes a few weeks to come though. But worth contacting them. They were very quick to respond in my cases
