I've ditched the floats on my floating dip tubes in my fermenters. For a good year now, I've just put a hop filter on the end and much prefer it. It get's buried in the yeast, trub + hops etc but still flows no probs when using pressure to transfer. Runs pretty clear too. I get so much more beer too. I'm usually just left with with just the yeast cake and hops. No beer to be seen in the fermenter. Gelatine in the keg and I still have bright beers. :-)

Anyone else ditched the float?

No, I have zero issues with them but both methods work perfectly well.

Don’t use them in the keg and have perfectly bright beers too.
