Hi all, after my first ever 2 brews, coopers lager and stout and having watched and read lots for the past 12 months, im finally going to try my first recipe. an extract beer.
I would really like your opinions on it. does it sound ok? I am hoping for a nice hoppy hit as i really like these hops.
any advice would be much appreciated.

The ingredients for the recipe looks okay but the hop scheduling looks wrong to me..

I don't know what software you use but I make it 113 IBUs!!, BUT is that something to do with your software calculating for a smaller boil size?? still I cannot imagine it would be that different

What style are you actually going for like am american amber / pale ale or an IPA?

Agree with Cov. Do you want something like punk IPA, or less hoppy than that?

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I would like something hoppy like punk ipa i suppose. I used brewers friend. Like i say i havent done my own additions before so i would take any help and advice i can get on the hop sequence and quantities etc. Cheers guys

I suggest moving all hop additions to between 1st wort and 60 mins or 20min to flame out as there is little benefit to hops added between 20 & 60mins. ie at 30 you getting about half the potential bitterness and little of the flavour or aroma.

The Maltmiller sells a Punk kit which has this hop schedule..

50.00 g************* Chinook [13.40 %] - Boil 12.0 min
16.00 g************** Ahtanum [5.30 %] - Boil 5.0 min
16.00 g * * * * * * * Rakau [10.8%] - Boil 5.0 min
16.00 g * * * * * * * Mosaic *[14.10 %] - Boil 5.0 min****
16.00 g************** Ahtanum [5.30 %] " Steep 0 min
16.00 g * * * * * * * Rakau [10.8 %] " Steep 0 min***
16.00 g * * * * * * * Mosaic *[12 %] - Steep 0 min
16.00 g************** Ahtanum [5.30 %] - Dry Hop 3-5 days
16.00 g * * * * * * * Rakau [10.8%] - Dry Hop 3-5 days***
16.00 g * * * * * * * Mosaic [12 %] - Dry Hop 3-5 days

You could swap your hops in where necessary, and I could check it later if you like.

Ok, so I have been tweaking things a bit. Does this look a bit better? Sorry for being a noob

That should produce a very hoppy beer. It's about 6g hops per litre. The Punk recipe is about 10g per litre.

6g per litre with most of them in the last 15 mins will provide loads of hop flavour, and good aroma but less than the Punk recipe, which is designed to be perfumy. You have a lovely selection of hops there, it looks good.

Thanks Clibit. Much appreciated. Glad that sounds like it will work. feel better about it now. :drink:

Every new recipe is a bit of gamble, you don't know exactly how it will work out, but there's nothing there to worry about, you'll get nice beer. Be good to hear how it tastes when it's ready.
