Just joined the forum and this is my first post.

Started this last Wednesday so only been going a week but I've already reached fg, bit of a weird one as a few posts on here said 2-3 weeks. It's been in the brew fridge set at 20 degrees which is the recomended low temp, so can't even blame it on high ferment temps. The fact i had it set for 20 degrees I was expecting it to take 3 weeks!

Airlock activity had all but stopped, thinking it had possibly stalled i decided to take a SG reading this morning and low and behold its 1.003,lowest I've seen a beer go! Still has krausen on top so will leave a week for yeast to clean up then dry hop.

Anyone else's finished this quick at low temps?

Wee bit about my procedure and to give the thread a bump

Made the kit to the instructions, rehydrated the yeast at 27 degrees, then pitched when yeast was 23 and wort 21. Went straight out to brew fridge at 20 degrees, airlock started showing activity after 5/6 hours and was really vigorous after less than 24 hours!

Only thing iI can think of is the amount of viable yeast, this kit has almost 3 times the amount of yeast as a normal kit. Reading through the dedicated thread though a lot of folk still ain't reached fg after more than 2 weeks

Any ideas?

If the brew doesn't look as if it has finished, bubbles still rising, krausen still on top, no sign of clearing yet, then it hasn't finished. So...
Is your hydrometer accurate? Do a check against water?
Does your FV lid leak? Mine does. I seal it with cling film once the fermentation has died down. That way all the CO2 goes through the airlock.
My AIPA took 20 days to get down to 1008 and then I dry hopped for 4 more before I bottled.

First thing I done was check the hydrometer, bang on 1 at 20 degrees, airlock activity has all but stopped, bout 1 bubble every 2 mins but krausen still on top so maybe still some co2 in suspension. As I say though, 1.003 is lowest I've seen a beer go

Yeah, took one on Tuesday when I was checking SG, tried it and it was very tasty. No problems in that respect

Edit to add - I didn't detect any sourness or off flavours in case that's what you were getting at. Just a moderate amount of bitterness. One of the nicest samples I've tasted right out of the fv
