The two dogs below were left in this shiny red oven to slowly roast, i am so glad they are going to be prosecuted.

Two dogs were rescued by police from a "blazing hot" car where they had been left for more than half an hour.

Officers decided to smash the car window in order to free the animals.

York City Centre Policing team said on Twitter the car was so hot inside the officers were "struggling to breathe", adding: "There is no excuse for this, I am utterly appalled".

The force said the matter had been referred to the RSPCA and the owners of the car "will be prosecuted".

Grrr, gnash. Mistreatment of animals really freaks me out! The owners really need to be subjected to the same ordeal x10.

Poor things! Owners must be idiots. My dogs are all flaked out on the patio furniture...big bowl of water for them to play in..

They may be your property but that doesn't give you the right to treat them badly and In this country if you do not treat your animal well you will be prosecuted and rightly so.

My same thoughts, yet a few weeks ago I stumbled upon an article where a police dog was killed with an axe. In my opinion comparable to manslaughter, yet somehow not possible within the current laws.

I heard a very tragic story of a guy in Ireland who left his baby in the car on the hottest day of last year.
He was supposed to have dropped her off at the creche but it somehow went out of his mind, he found her dead when he remembered at lunch time.
I think I'd end up topping myself if I did that.

I know this might make me sound like a **** but the reaction to these stories genuinely confuses me.

The U.K. butchers over a billion animals a year but people should be prosecuted for hurting two dogs? Pigs are often considered more intelligent than dogs but killing 10 million a year is fine compared to forgetting that your dogs might get hot in the car... I really don’t get it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a meat eater and I love bacon. I just don’t understand how people can care so much about cruelty to one animal but not another

The speed and humaneness of the death is a big factor.
I wouldn’t eat animals that had been slowly killed in a hot vehicle.
Also if were’t supposed to eat animals, then why are they made of meat?

It'd probably taste like crap too o_O

I do get that levels of cruelty are important though, but there does also seem to often be a different standard depending on whether the animal is a traditional pet or not. Lot's of people who are happy to kill pigs for food wouldn't be happy to kill and eat dogs, even if the process was equally humane.

Exactly, Imagine the uproar if we found out we kill the pigs at the slaughter house by roasting them in an oven until they died!

Well the animals in question were supposed to be loved and cared for by their owners. I guess the outrage would have been the same if they had been pot bellied pigs. Ye I know - it's a tricky one.
