Its not a beer I ever had, I prefer something a fair bit stronger myself. However, I like the look of the recipe. It looks right up my street, strong and bitter.
My latest brew (only my second) had a similar amount of grain to that involved, mainly pale and I got an og of 1.060 from 6kg (was closer to 20L in the end mind) so I dont know if yours is gonna be stronger than your estimate.

Question for ya though, what yeast you got in mind? the one i went for for ag#2 is struggling to get through such sweetness and the fg is looking like it will be higher that I thought I'd get down too.

let me know how it works out

was thinking of using white labs english ale yeast or to be a bit more daring S05 dont know really just want the ale to have a nice grapefruit citrus aftertaste like the real guzzler. :thumb:

It looks like a nice pint but...

Guzzler is 3.6% not 5.2%

I think you might be a touch too bitter there as well. I'd aim for a lower OG and take the hops back a bit maybe 1038 and 30 ibu. There is certainly hop aroma and flavour in there so you need the late hops for that. I don't know what yeast York use but I doubt it is US05.

You probably know more than I do, looking at post count so feel free to ignore me :)

Hope it turns out well

I definately agree with Mumbler here.
I get to drink Guzzler most weeks at one of my locals....it's a great, easy drinking low gravity beer. So, the initial recipe gives you far to great an OG and ABV.
I also agree with Mumbler on the bitterness.
Guzzler is quite bitter, but you have to consider that in relation to the OG and the alcohol content. I would be looking for 30-35 IBU and then go from there.

I did knock up a Guzzlerish recipe myself a couple of moths ago (must say I have not brewed it yet).....I'll post it tonight when I get home if you like?

For yeast I'd go with something typically English....WLP002 or 005 or Nottingham dry yeast if you have a reliable batch.

Edit - recipe for 40 litres

That looks better what do you think about replacing the last celeia with citra also what about a wheat malt addition it is quite a pale bitter. Ill give this a go sunday with notty yeast

Thanks for your PM mark......I should point out the recipe above is for 40 litres

As for the citra.....they are very, very different than what I would expect to get from the celia.
I hope the celia are quite floral......rob at TMM says they are similar to Styrian Goldings. Guzzler certainly has some floral quality that is reminicient of Styr. Goldings.
Citra hops give a very powerful citrus hit.....nice, but very in your face 'American'.

A little wheat malt addition wouldn't make much difference to colour and will give a little head retention and lacing....it does impart it's own taste if used even in I quite moderate amounts I find. The brewery factsheet give pale and crystal malts only....no mention of any wheat malt.

Just curious if anyone else has tried this receipe for the Guzzler and if there are any additional suggestions.

Just spent a week in Cumbria and Yorkshire trying many and this one is the first we want to brew now that we are back home across the pond.

There is very little information out there on brewing this beer.

When I put the receipe in to Beersmith, it comes out quite bitter on paper, more than the 30 or so IBU I would think we are looking for.

Any additional help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
