Hi there folks.

My last two AG brews seem to have a weird yeasty type flavour.

I normally do 4 5L Mini kegs and a few bottles from a 23L batch.

The bottles taste absolutely fine but the MKs have a yeasty flavour.

Anyone have any idea as to what might be going on here?

I normally stick some MKs in the fridge once the bottles start tasting OK and they're always nicer than the bottles.

One is a black IPA with US-05 and the other is a Saison with MJ's French Saison yeast.

Is it definitely a yeasty flavour? I had a MK where the lining had been damaged and my beer got a horrible metallic type taste.

Otherwise, could it be an issue with cleaning the minikegs?

I would definitely say yeasty and not metallic. The off taste is not bitter at all and reminds me of what rehydrated yeast solution smells like.

Could sanitation issues cause this? Strange to have this across 2 batches having followed the same regime as all my other brews which have been fine.

Not on purpose but drunk me does all kinds of odd stuff I don't know about.

I've always found sediment to be very, very bitter. Is it possible for it to be distinctly yeasty instead?

Ok, so a few days later and the black IPA is tasting normal again.

The Saison is definitely better, not quite there yet though.

I'm thinking that stuff getting stirred up in the kegs could well be the cause - is that plausible?

Sediment will be yeast dropped out of suspension..

yes if they are kept stable and allowed to clear and not kicked shook up into suspension you shoudl get a cleaner beer, but if you're moving the keg and kicking it all up you will pull it into your pint.

LOL! Maybe I am. I've never experienced that flavour before.

As I said, I've only ever found the sediment to be bitter (not that I make a deliberate habit of tasting it, mind) so for my pint to taste like someone had chucked fresh yeast starter into it is a new one on me.
