Hi guys i just pitched my yeast into my latest brew, an old english bitter and forgot to let it cool so the temp was around 40 degrees.Have i killed the yeast or will it still work?

if it takes off in a day or two, you're good to go. i don't think 40c will kill it, sounds like a fine pitching temp, providing it was on the way back down to the early 20s/late teens.

I would prepare another yeast as i think 30c + something kills the yeast , it won't hurt having extra yeast if some have survived but if any then not enough for a healthy brew .

Thanks guys looks like i'll have to go to the lhbs in the morning will it matter if it's a different yeast to the kit?

Well I have a krausen ring this morning and a slightly bulging lid so I think I may be ok but there's no sign of airlock activity. :hmm:
