Yeast for hop forward beers.

I've used both liquid & slants, but then wanted to try a few of the MJ dried yeasts, and to honest now can't be faffed with making up starters etc so haven't gone back as the beers are just as good in my opinion.
Tempted with the Vermont yeast though.

Have you had any slants that stood out from the rest Dan?

I will say that the slants did ferment out quickly with a very healthy Krausen.
I had an un-named 'kentish' yeast from brewlab on their recommendation which was nice as I remember, but also had a 'neutral' strain (called F40 or something similar If memory serves) that took an age to settle.

I have just purchased 2 strains one of is TV3 looking forward to using that one
 
Would Nottingham/Wilkos yeast work ???
This yeast thing takes some learning :doh:
 
Your choice depends what your after really doesn't it?

I'm not sophisticated / experienced enough to be able to spot what a lot of yeasts bring to the beer, but the Vermont screams out immediately. Once you've tried one beer with it, it's obvious in another. It's certainly not clean, like us05 which just gets out of the way of hops, but complements hops beautifully.
 
The M-44 for me is just like US-05 but perhaps even more neutral if that's possible.

All I know is that my hop flavour and aroma have been more pronounced since switching over.

Similar attenuation and flocs brilliantly.

Couldn't resist ordering a vial of the Vermont with today's malt miller order - seeing as I have both a centennial and a Chinook single hop brew planned, I thought this might suit nicely.

Yeah, I'm planning a centennial only brew with it at the end of the year, should be great.

I've only had chinook in hoppy speckled hen and found the dankness rather off putting, though funnily enough I love citra which can have that too.

Funny that - I had a case of brewdog ales arrive on the doorstep this morning (its my birthday) and I thought the same about the dead pony club. I assumed this was down to the Citra when I checked the recipe.

I've only used Chinook one or twice before, and a while ago, but was hoping for a full on grapefruit hit rather than the dankness - maybe further research and recipe tinkering is required.

They sound great, I would try it but I am not sure chiook will give you grapefruit? centenial certainly will and cascade gives you that too but a little different

Thanks - I'll defo rethink this one - pesky hop descriptions!

I have 100g of Belma pellets in the freezer that might help, as these are supposed to be pretty mild flavour wise. I'm gonna have a lot of spare Chinook though :doh:

Use Chinook as your bittering

I am sure St Austells Proper job uses combinations of chinook cascade and perhaps willamette

Doing mine with redx malt and biscuit malt and calling it 'strawberry shortcake' ale, cos I'm a 'tiger'
