Hi I was just wondering could anyone recommend a pump for recycling ice water through wort chiller after using tap first to take out the majority of heat. Been looking on eBay but haven't a clue thanks
 
fwiw i replaced the agitator in a shelf chiller with a small 1000l/ph pond/water feature pump to recirc the cold bath water through a FV hex coil..

a lil brown solar pump will do the job too..

if you have an electric drill the cheapest option will probably be a drill pump?

Do you need to do this or is it just a bit of brewday fun?? fwiw with an Immersion chiller i would chill down to circa 30c and let it sit for a good 1/2 hour to settle out the hops and granular break material after the stir n chill before draining into a FV by which time the brew would be close to pitching temps anyway..
 
Was just thinking if I had a pump could save on all the water I'm wasting and cut out time I need tap running for a and recirculate ice water
 
Dont run the hot water to waste, save it for the clean up. some folk recirculate water from a large waterbutt, however it will take longer as ground water is generally a few degrees cooler than water at ambient temp, and for best results pumping from one waterbut into a 2nd will work out better as your not heating up the source with the return.
 
My waste water goes into the bathtub (Japanese bath/shower rooms are massive) where I wash all my pots and stuff when I'm done. I then pump it outside to water my grass and plants and the remainder goes into my pond.
 
Plenty of pumps on Amazon and eBay for less than a tenner.

Would you be able to link one or two that would work well for the purpose I want them for the boiler will be right beside sink so doesn't need to pump far . EBay links if possible
 
I think the gray/brown one is ok to high heat. I have some cheap black ones. But have had no problems with them. Even running boiling water through it for 10 minutes.
 
lil brown solar pumps can handle boiling temps, and are supported for brewing use if bought from here http://www.solarproject.co.uk/page2.html
cheaper ebay china versions are available but........ no guarantees ;) to power i use an ebay china tattoo gun psu for an easy dial up down controller, tho other folk use the dc power bricks that let you select different voltages with a lil slide switch, not as easy to change speed but works al the same.;)

the silicone connectors for sale lowe on the page linked to above are an easy friction fit onto 10mm copper tube too
 
you might be best looking for a pump that is clearly marked as H rated for brewery use. H means they will withstand temperatures of upto 110'c for sustained periods and the plastic is stable at this point.
 
the ebay tattoo gun power supplies are a cheap and easy dial up and down power supply/controller for 12v solar pumps and they can handle loads upto 2-3a too.. something like

though you should find some for about a tenner or even less if you hunt em down..

the only mod needed is to by pass the footswitch control which is easy just short out a 1/4" mono jack plug into the footswitch socket ;)

if you use a dc power brick just ensure its rated to handle more amps than the pump you use will draw..
 
I just used an old monitor power unit. Those older monitors that took Dc power.
I never worried about voltage control since they're brushless and are fine under pressure. I just control the flow from valves on my tanks or online. But remember to never restrict flow to the pump. It's called chocking and it'll damage your pump.

The pump has a 1/2" BSP, pipe diameter so you will need a connector matching to your hose/pipe.
