hello all,

after 2 successful brews of coopers lager, i am now going to have a go at bitter.

after reading a few reviews, i get the impression the above is a decent drink and am about to order online to give it to my wife so she can give it back to me for xmas!!!!

however, so as to avoid any dissapointment, i was wondering if anybody who has previously brewed this beer can tell me if there is any other specific equipment needed for brewing other than the standard fermenting bin and bottles. any advice would be appreciated.

OR if anyone thinks there is a better bitter to try, let me know.

woodfordes wherry is a cracking beer, probably my favourite out of all the kits, like everything in brewing, cleanliness and patience is the key, its a two can kit so no sugar needed, in fact i have wherry in one of my main fv now which is ready to be racked into my bottling fv, its been left in the main one for aroung 3 weeks incl 1st ferm, i will leave it in the bottling fv another week maybe two, then decide whether to bottle or barrel, choices choices!
2 fv's are probably the minimum you need to do any brewing, any food grade 5 gallon container will do, i also use 5 gallon water containers as fv's
racking off into a 2nd fv really helps the beer to clear quicker which leads to being able to drink it quicker!

I can recomend the Wherry. For a kit it is a nice drink. Let it condition in the bottle for 6/8 weeks as it really does improve with age. It is prone to stick at around the 1.020 mark so you may need to give it a gentle rousing after 3/4 days to aid fermentaition.
 
You will find most kit brewers have made this product. A cracking beer to be honest. I even went as far as Norfolk to try it in a pub to see the difference, the only issue is that it didnt clear properly this was mainly to do with the high temps i suffer in my flat and inability at the time to cool it. Other than that even the GF said she thought it was the best one i had brewed out of all my kits.

Now if only we could replicate a AG recipe for it :thumb:
 
Ive made loads of wherry kits it is my favourite beer :D one thing i'd sugest is bin the supplied yeast and get some s-04 yeast because up to date I have not had a stuck ferment and the beer is clear within 2 weeks :thumb:
 
I've brewed a couple of the Wherry kits.........cracking beer.
Very very prone to sticking tho.....good advice to bin the yeast provided.
 
Aye, good tip about the yeast. My Wherry stuck and, although I added another sachet of (Munton's Gold) yeast to try and get it going, it still didn't reach its target OG.

It's been conditioning in bottles for 4 weeks, and still shows no sign of clearing. I last sampled a bottle at the weekend (for quality control purposes :whistle:) and it tastes OK though.
 
after the comments about s-04 i think next time i will use s-04 yeast with wherry next time, even though i have gone to AG i still tend to buy wherry as its a great beer:)
 
Mine tatses great, even though it's over chlled due to the weather.

It has a haze, but as I can't taste anything untoward I'm assuming it's just a chill haze...will this go if I bring it up in temp a little?
