Chose this kit after I did a Wherry a while back as it is described as a lighter beer that will be enjoyed by both bitter drinkers and lager fans alike and the picture on the box is of a very light golden pint. I bottled this 3 weeks ago and it's still slightly cloudy but clearing slowly, just cracked one open and it is lively with a good creamy head and good head retention but doesn't taste quite right yet. What I have noticed is the colour of the pint is exactly the same as the Wherry I did which I photgraphed and much darker than the image on the box. I am beginning to wonder if I have a Wherry in a Great Eastern package. Has anyone else done both of these kits and should they be different colours with the Wherry being a darker pint and Gt Eastern being more of a lager looking colour?

I've got a Great Eastern fermenting at the moment, and I was surprised when I launched it; I was expecting it to be much paler based on the photo on the box.

I've got a Great Eastern conditioning in the shed, its fair bit darker than the photos and the yeast still hasn't really settled properly after 4 weeks.

I've still got 40 pints of Coopers Canadian Lager and 80 pints of Coopers Australian Pale Ale to get through before I sample it.....

I have brewed this kit twice and the colour was different both times the seccond time the great eastern was darker than the first time but neither brew came anywhear near how light the picture on the box was. have you added any kit enhancers to the brew at all? i have found this has slightly altered colours of some of my brews. a good kit to brew that is light would be brupaks linthwaite light and far superior in my opinion. Hope it all works out for you.

Cheers for your replies, seems woodfordes should be done under the trade description act then as the picture on the box does not resemble the product produced. I didn't add anything to it just brewed it as per the instructions. I reckon its just Wherry in a different box! If I had known it would be this colour I would have saved myself £5 and done another Wherry from Wilkos but thought I would experiment! No doubt it will be a decent pint once matured and cleared but I am disappointed with the type of beer it appears to be. Thinking of going AG and seeing how best to set that up for low cost so will be able to brew the types of beers that I like.

yes that is my next step Leglesstwot i have a full stainless setup just waiting on a mash tun to complete then its a step over to the dark side for me. i also like to produce light ales and it seems very limited when using kits. good luck mate! :drink:

Nice one, but I think my first step will be with the aid of plastic buckets, tesco kettle elements, cool boxes etc and plugged into next doors electric to keep the cost right down!!!!

That's the way I'm going. I'm collecting my bits and pieces and now just need a couple of buckets and the plumbing bits to sort my AG kit out. Hopefully, I'll not be doing another kit.
