Did you lager (cold condition) the lager though?

Not properly i confess but it was in the garage for 5 weeks when it was really cold. To be honest i don't really like it anymore, was more of an experiment for the Mrs. Give me an IPA any day.

Wowzers! Fair enough, I didn't think this strain ever gave off any esters. I'll have to tone down my fermentation temps a bit I think.

All yeast will give off esters given the right temps. It must have been at least 25C/26C in my FV i reckon though

Just cracked open a couple of bottles of my vienna hybrid beer. It's absolutely gorgeous. I think this style of hybrid beer, lager recipe, fermented with ale yeast and not cold conditioned/lagered, is the way forward for me for pales at least.
Because of the delicate hopping normally associated with lagers you can really taste the esters from the yeast. Really nice.
