Head retention is poor at the minute. Needs more time. Colour is actually ok

First try of my effort. 250ml tester bottle. I have to say, this is lovely. Needs a week or two more conditioning but 1 week in the bottle and a few hours in the fridge and it's looking, smelling and tasting great.

I'm loving the lingering roasty aftertaste. I think the body and carbonation is just right.

Looks like we’ve got the following brewers involved (In no particular order).
@pilgrimhudd
@Stu's Brews
@Begbie
@Nottsbeer
@Donegal john
@samale
@SMP Brewery

If I haven't missed anyone I’ll post swaps (I’ve been on the vino tonight so I’m playing it carefully).
The plan had been to post out next weekend. Is there an appetite to push it back an allow a bit of extra conditioning time?

Hi all, my stout is giving off solvent and phenolic flavours. Think something has gone wrong with the brew. I sent a bottle to the Oct bark beer comp and it got 28/50. Tried a bottle lastnight and it's a little overpowering. I'm not sure others would appreciate drinking this one so maybe best to drop out. Am gutted as it was promising. Will brew again in the future but ditch an ingredient I suspect has resulted in this. Enjoy the swaps🍻🍻

Oh dear that’s not great.
Out of interest what was the offending ingredient ?

I think it was the Candi syrup I used. I've used it in a Trappist style brew and it had a warming alcohol tweak, but wonder if the syrup was too long open and it's not gone well in the brew. I could of course be totally wrong 🤣. The beer was good initially, then didnt drink it for a few weeks. Was surprised when I got the feedback, but trying it yesterday it's definitely gotten worse,band a bit overpowering after a pint.

Strange that it was good before but the flavours have developed now. I always thought those flavours would have been noticeable from the start. Unfortunate for you though.

I'll keep trying a few more other bottles to see if any are better😉. Enjoyed brewing this one so def a style I'll do again.

Not sure what to do now, tried mine again and I don’t like it. Trouble is no idea if the beers carp or it’s just not for me. Don’t want to send out something that’s not drinkable. 🤷‍♂️
