Welcome to the forum

Which kit is it?

Ignore timings in wine kit instructions they are always optimistic.

I have just checked my review of the WineBuddy Sav Blanc kit and it says

I checked today with my hydrometer and its down to 994, the instructions say its finished at 996.
So basically wait until it reaches the gravity the instructions give you.

My review is here - http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=49224

Hi chippy tea thanks for your reply its a wine buddy Sav Blanc like I said i am all new to this that's why I joined this forum.
Another thing it states that I should move the wine to another 5g container before bottling and to add sugar me and the wife like a dry wine so how much would you recommend chippy tea.

Are you sure it says rack to a second FV, i have always done it from start to finish in the first FV as in my original review -

9] Pour the contents of the stabiliser pack into the wine and stir vigorously to degas.

10] Pour in pack D - F-pack A & B (see first post for description)

11] Pour in pack E - finings 1 stir and leave for 1 hour.

12] After 1 hour pour in pack F finings 2 stir and wait 1 hour.

13] After 1 hour pour in pack G finings 3 cover and leave for 24 hours (i always give it 48)

I have just read the instructions (see bottom of post), if you are happy with the taste once it reaches 995 or below don't bother racking it if you intend to bottle as soon as its clear.

To make bottling easier (less chance of the syphon moving) get one of these they are cheap and do a good job, you can also use them on a DJ.

14.

After 24hrs the wine should be clear, if not leave until clear before proceeding.
15.
Once clear, rinse the second vessel with hot water and syphon the wine into this using the syphon tube and bucket clip. It is
important to syphon-off as much liquid as possible while taking
care not to disturb the sediment at the bottom of the container
. If the sediment is disturbed at any point during the syphoning process, pour any syphoned wine back into the original container, cover and leave the sediment to re-settle for a further 24hrs or
until clear. Please see beginners syphoning instructions at the bottom of this page for more details.
16.
If you wish to sweeten your wine it should be done at this
stage. When sweetening, add five dessert spoons of sugar, stir to
dissolve then taste. Repeat until desired sweetness is achieved

Thank You chippy_tea I might transfers to second fv then taste if I need to add sugar I will add it then, the one you done was it a dry taste and is it good, when I get more experience then I will do it your way anyway chippy_tea thank you very much for all your help have you ever done a merlot wine buddy if so what are they like or have you got any recommendations on ones to try but not to expensive as I'm doing this to save money as me and the wife like our wine lol.

Chippy_ tea one other question when I put the remainder of the sachets in do I put the air lock back on for the remainder of the time for it to clear or just cover it with a cloth and do I keep it at the same temp between 22-25 c or put it in a call place.

Hi chippy_tea just to let you now that done a test today day nine and its reading 1000 could iGive it a good stir to get rid of some of the gas or just leave it go there is no bubbles in the air lock so I could do with your expertise.

Cheers chippy_tea
Ps sorry for asking all these questions.

No need to apologise, if members didn't ask questions the forum would cease to function.
Not all FV's are airtight so you see bubbles when a lot of CO2 is produced but not when there is very little, I have two different ones and one bubbles until it's finished and the other gives up after a few days.
Let it get to 995 then finish it as per instructions.

We have just bottled our WB Sav Blanc and it tastes great straight out of the bucket, no ageing for the ones we are drinking later tonight.

Hi chippy_tea it says in the instructions to add parts A and B for sav blanc anyway I only have F pack part B is this correct mate did yours have 2 sachets or just the one.

Cheers mate

Wine can be left in the fermenter for a crazy amount of time as long as its kept airtight, I have left wine for well over a month myself, but I've heard of people leaving it for the better part of a year and nothing bad happening to it. The high alcohol content helps to keep it. All you have to do is keep air away from it.

Cheers bquiggerz I'm all new to this so I will leave it air tight till Monday anyway cheered mate I thought I was going to loose it all.
