Hi guys, today a bought some yeast nutrient from wilkos for my next brew. On the directions it says to add 1 rounded teaspoonful per gallon to the WINE mix and stir well. Is this stuff just for wine or will it get the yeasties working hard in my stout or is it just for wine?

Thanks

AFAIK yeast nutrient is for beer and wine. You don't normally need it for beer as the wort contains all the nutrients needed whereas wine must doesn't contain them. So that will be why it mentions wine and not beer. However, it will do no harm adding it to your beer.

I find it helps with some of the 2-can kits (especially if made by Muntons), which can sometimes get stuck. Never had any problems nor needed to use it when I've used a separate yeast pack, nor with Coopers kits.

Just used it today in a Brupak Almondsbury Old, as my last Brupak kit stuck at 1020.

Kits seem to come with only 5g of yeast whereas a pack you buy separately is usually 11g so I think the kits generally under pitch. I guess the nutrient just gives the yeast the extra bit of help it needs.
