Got this from an online source and it sounds MEGA!!!! I'm definitely going to do this but thought if a few of us were to do it then we could bring them to the Spring Thing?!?
The rules.......yes there are rules!......this is serious stuff!
All the below assumes a 10 gallon batch. Half the amounts if you brew 5g's.
9kg base malt - your choice
1.8kg Additional malt - your choice
900g Random malt - must be selected by your wife/girlfriend/mistress
900g Any crystal malt
Mash temp can be anything you choose - but you must specify before brewing so you can test your ability to hit a temp.
1 handfull of hops (any) must be added to the mash.
Now is where it gets complicated.................
Recipe must contain 3 or 4 hop species.
113g of hops must be 10% AA or greater
113g of hops must be 5-9.0% AA
113g of hops must be 4.99% AA or less
113g of hops of your choice
113g of hops must be saved for dry hopping - these can be any hop.
Take the dry hops and put back in the freezer. The remaining selection of hops gets split into 28g batches. These are then randomised. I personally write on the base of a cup the variety before filling and then have 16 cups in front of me. Randomise these by shuffling the cups around.
Boil time is 69 mins
Take 2 of the random cups and add at 69 mins. Take another 2 cups and add at 21 mins.
10 of the cups left over get added according to a pair of dice........yeh you heard right
Take 2 dice and roll them 10 times. The combined total of each throw equals a hop addition. For example, if you roll a 3 and a 4, you have a hop addition at 7 mins. Add each of these numbers to a random cup and add that cup of hops at that time in the boil.
The two remaining cups get added the remaining 2 cups get added at 1 min and 0 mins respectively.
Obviously you won't know what hop you're adding and when, so after each addition, flip the cup over and record the time/variety of the addition. You never know, this may be the best beer ever.....you will want to repeat it!
Lastly - the yeast is your choice.
BOOM!
Who's up for this? I'm doing it. Just ordering my stuff from the Malt Miller now and then going to brew it next weekend.
