I plan to brew with this liquid yeast on Saturday. The best before date is 16/02/16 and I don't plan to brew above 1.070. Do you think I can get away without doing a starter? Just realised that I have no DME.

I wouldn't risk it personally. You may well be ok because it well within BBD but you don't know how the yeast has been handled before it got to you. Just think how P****d off you'd be if you got a stuck ferment

That's what I thought, just don't think I can get DME delivered before Saturday.

No just using sugar on it's own doesnt work (well it will work but not like you want it to. It's kind of like you existing soley on a diet of sugar. You'd be ok for maybe one or two days then succumb to malnutrician).

Based on an efficiency of 70% you'll need 350g for 2L of 1.039 wort (according to brewmate)

Yep def agree with MQ here, especially if you're thinking up to 1070.. why leave anything to chance? even if it goes off and a longer lag time you run risks of stressing the yeast anyway which in a Blonde is going to be more noticeable.

Thanks guys. I have sent my wife to the only places locally I think may sell it. If not it may have to manufacture a days work near the closest brew shop or just brew something else.

Whether through luck or misfortunate I think my brew day at the weekend will be cancelled. My electrics in my garage/brew room blew earlier. Can't sort them out until its dry.

I'd like to make a Belgian ale sometime. Never done so but do love Belgian beers. I've got the book so will have a look. I should be a poet too.

I love Belgian beers. I under order on the pale malt hence the alteration, although I do have some bohemian Pilsner to use. The good news is I have asked a colleague to attend a brew shop to collect some dme, all I need do now is convince the wife to let me brew and ferment inside the house

That's my plan lol. She is taking the little one out for the day on Sunday so when I get back from my bike ride I may do it. I usually brew in the garage or under the car port if the weather is nice

I brew in the kitchen with patio doors open and ferment in kitchen too. I do it while she's at work then when she comes home there's just an FV sat there. She's doesn't see the chaos I cause to get to that stage. Just comes home and kitchen all cleaned.

I did my first one on my last brew. Just followed the info in Greg Hughes book. Worked a treat. Was bubbling away within 30mins once I added it.

It's dead easy. If I can do it anyone can. My top wound be put DME in first then bit of water shake till mixed in top up with water shake and then boil it as per instructions. I out water in first then DME when I first did it. Nightmare sticky mess off gunk everywhere. Lesson learned.
