Just as the weather starts to get good...I get ill! I always pride myself on never getting ill and today the sun is shining, I was planning to golf and SWMBO and my golfing partner banned me from leaving the house. SWMBO is making me drink lots of lempsips and horrible herbal teas...anytime she leaves the room I'm sticking a big splash of Grouse in them

I like a whiskey lemsip myself when I'm under the weather. Don't go too over the top though, paracetamol and alcohol aren't a good mix as far as the liver goes.

Hope your back on form soon,

I'm with Dennis on this one.

How to cure a cold
(or How to make sure a cold doesn't bother you)

A cup.
A BIG blob of honey, set is is better than runny.
Forget the fruit.
Fill to around half way with whisky (Bells has a use!).
Top up with boiling water.
Tell the rest of the house to feck off and leave you alone.
Put the fire on (actually, do this first if you have a solid fuel one).
Drink.
Repeat (except don't worry about the fire, it's already on).

There is a line though Dennis...

T**chers shall only be used for erm... starting bonfires, lighting barbecues etc..

Yes T*&chers does have its uses but not beverage, culinary or medicinal. :nono: :nono:

You did miss stripping paint though Calum, and of course passing on to a neighbour or relative you not particularly fond of for christmas.

I've always wondered where Grants sits on this....

people go on about it at times like it's some sort of nectar from the gods.

I'll be honest, the only Whisky I like that's probably in the top 10 sellers in the UK would be Glenmorangie.

Can't find a list of top 10... they'll almost certainly include
Teacher's
Bell's
Grant's
Whyte and Mackay
Famous Grouse
Glenfiddich
Johnnie Walker
Chivas Regal

Actually, I don't really like blended whiskies so I won't like any of the above.

I'm rapidly running out of blended whisky and loathe to tuck into the good stuff...

Oh, just tried one with maple syrup instead of honey...not bad

Some of the higher end Johnnie Walker is alright.

Teachers...only good for whisky sauce. The cheaper the whisky the better the sauce

Noted. Many thanks.

On another note, I now find I can't drink any Vodka except cheap Polish vodka. So at least my wallet does get a rest.
I never really did like Russian vodka much. I don't really do mixers and it tastes rather harsh.

I work with a bunch of Polish guys and they drink this vodka made from bison grass, pretty good. And these guys know their vodka, they literally just stand at the bar/my kitchen table and drink shot after shot of the stuff straight

That's the stuff. Zubrowka Bison Grass. Mmmmmmm.

The pub I worked we used to keep Zubrovka in the freezer along with the glasses, conveniently in the BBC (Boring Bastard Corner, the guys who would keep us open in the foulest blizzard, and would buy us all shot after shot of Bison Grass!!). For a REALLY nice longer drink (and I normally like my spirits straight up) add cloudy apple juice, its amazing, it brings out a cinammon flavour, so its like drinking very cold alcoholic strudel. Try it, its great. No good for colds though....

I'll definitely give that a try. I've just got back so have a bottle handy. I've got to go back out next month too.

If you ever get a chance to try them, the herby ones are really nice

Zoladkowa Gorzka is proper cheap (often under 30zl/£6 a bottle). It's really tasty as it's infused with all sorts of herbs.
They also do one infused with honey which is like a mead-flavoured spirit.

I'm not a fan of Grant's either, definately one for the cooking whiskey pile. Does have it's uses though.

For good old scooping whiskey I like Black Bottle, one of the better blends or Bells if I'm poor or it's on special.

For anyone that's not tried Black Bottle I'd heartily recommend it, sometimes get it on special in the supermarket. Nice smokey flavour on the end.

At my restaurant we get a lot of wealthy American golfers, being St. Andrews and all. Sometimes one of them will ask for a Macallan or Highland Park with ice and coke....I give them Famous Grouse
