Hi all, just racked off my first ever batch of cider from proper apples today into demijohns. The only problem i had was that i needed an extra demijohn but dont have a spare bung, so i just covered the demijohn lid with climgfilm, will this suffice of do i need to go get another one asap?

Also i want to print some labels for my wine and cider so can anyone recommend anywhere that does decent labels fairly cheaply? I probably need 50 cider and 30 wine labels.

Many thanks if you can help with these questions? :thumb:

Great thanks iceo, the free ones are alright for my first batch!

And I think I will maybe just leave the cling film on the 3rd demijohn and see what happens, see if there is any differences to the 2 full demijohns with airlocks and bungs.

Cheers!

i use 5L water bottles for my cider and wine so clingfilm with a pin hole is cheaper than an airlock.

Regarding labels - someone here recommended paper and prittstick! It actually looks ok if you print out labels - don't know how easy they are to take off

I used some gummed plastic stuff and have stopped as when i tried to get one off a bottle there was muchos swearing with not very good result

alot on here use milk to stick the labels on.

Milk to stick them on is a great idea, I was so sick of scraping the glue off bottles I have collected, around 100 of them, so I shall definitely try this when I get some labels thanks!

I went to tesco and got some of thier sticky labels 8 labels per a4 sheet of paper and I use them and they wash off very easily

I make my labels using publisher, then print them off (6 on a sheet of A4) and pritstik the four corners, comes off with a bit of water and a rub of the thumb.

I had my doubts about milk but now I wouldn't use anything else.
I just print my labels on a laser-printer, cut them out , give the back a momentary dip in a saucer of milk and they're good to go.
I smooth out any wrinkles and remove any excess with a damp cloth a few moments later.

A few seconds in warm water and they come off clean.
