Where to buy best yeast?

Hello everyone,

I really fancy using some Wyeast for my first brew. Everyone is saying that the results are great. Looked on ebay and they are charging £50 to send an £9 pouch of yeast. I understand that the yeast is live and has to be sent chilled but I just don't want to pay that much and risk the yeast dying on transport anyway. Can anyone recommend a place in UK?

I think you would probably have to mail order wyeast.

The malt miller does Whitelabs if you aren't worried about the brand of liquid yeast, I've had good results with whitelabs vials and I would certainly recommend Rob on the basis of service. I don't know of any Lancashire homebrew shops that stock wyeast but they may be out there. I know that Leyland Homebrew do not stock liquid yeasts but they used to order in brewlab slants on request.

Sorry - I thought Rob did the Wyeast smack packs as well

The whitelabs yeasts are very good though, and easy to grow up to the appropriate sized starter

+1 if your new to brewing whitelabs are more straightforward.

+1 for whitelabs which I have ordered from the maltmiller, but also hop and grape.

However if its your first brew it may be easier to go with whitelabs and just pour it in, no yeast starter to make.

It's advisable to make a starter with the whitelabs vials too.
