I didn't say that he was slagged of is said that in the context of my other post about the possibility of unwanted attention. I did say that he had but he could have been.

If you have a problem or concern with a supplier then the first port of call should be with them in private.

Its a shame realy, hope people still use you rob but £30 for a bag of malt is a little too much for me with delivery on top too. :(

I quite understand. But if you could go to your local home brew shop and buy a bag of malt for a reasonable price it would be better?

Think I just need to add a couple of things. I have enjoyed a huge amount of publicity from this forum and now have the pleasure of being one of the sponsors. This is, and should be an open forum, or as open as possible. With this in mind it is only correct that if someone sees a problem, or potential problem that it is brought up. I can not only accept the good and not the bad/indifferent. In any case I have always held the view that good feedback is great, but it's the constructive that is really useful, it helps me improve the business and helps your fellow brewers get a better service.

I have always had good support from the members of the forum and I would once again like to thank you

Cheers

Rob

I can't go to my local homebrew shop and pay that price and get the same quality, however i can go to Murphy's in Nottingham for less, even with fuel of about £4.

But dont want to start a slagging match with you Rob, but its a shame the prices have gone up.

I can't though, fuel for me to Nottingham is considerably more than 4 quid, even if I went to Fawcetts I can't get it cheaper than Rob. So in terms of the actual cost of the sack at the doorstep, it does depend on where you are in the country ;) . . .

And try and get a sack of Weyermann Pilsner malt from Murphy's ;) . . .Or perhaps worse still from a LHBS supplied by the other importer ;) . . . Sit down before they give you the price

I can't though

I can't either. In fact I probably cant drive to, park and drive home from any Home Brew Shop for that much. Thats not including the amount of time it takes out of a valuable brew day.

If I could buy the same stock with the same quality and freshness and price from my LHBS that Rob supplies then I could be tempted to use them, if only to support local High Street shops, but realistically I can't see how the quality can be as good as all Robs grains are freshly crushed, and Robs turnover is, I imagine much higher than most small Home Brew shops, especially my local one that really concentrates on Wine and Beer Kits.

Personally I see the future to nearly all shopping being mail order, and that is where I would be focussing my business if it were me.

My LHBS is the same as Steves, last time I asked about a sack of malt it was about £45. Will be ordering from Rob again
in the very near future

£~40 quid at mine and its no way near as fresh as Robs and you have to wait 2-3 weeks before it'll even be at the shop usually!

Although the price increases are not good for us brewers, One thing i would like to do is congratulate Rob for building a succesful buisness. Hes done that by giving us all a quality product at very competetive prices. If it wasnt for the goverment taxes this wouldent be happening , Afterall beer is food and made with the same ingredients as bread which is exempt from VAT we just use the ingredients in a different way. So i blame the goverment not Rob. I was lucky and sent a big order in last week at pre VAT prices and will definately be using Rob for future orders for the quality service and very high quality ingredients.

Well done Rob, it is great that business is good for you. If that means that HMRC now want a bigger slice of the pie, so be it. I have got used to the consistent quality and the dependable outcome of the ingredients you supply, and fast delivery too. I won't be going anywhere else for my ingredients. As you grow and expand your product range I hope that in the future I'll be able to get everything I need from you.

Good work dude, keep it up

MO is £30 delivered from Murphy's, dont know how much postage it is from Robs for that Quantity, I'm not saying i wont use Rob again but i will be getting my main grain's from Murphy's and the Hops and bits and bobs i will get from Rob. Its all about saving money aswell as having a good product, isn't this why Rob does so well?

I don't have a Local Homebrew Shop that sells anything other than Kit related stuff. All my Grains, Hops, Yeast come via mail order. I use more than one outlet and tend to use the one that has all the items I wish to order in stock at the time of ordering. The service I have received form Rob and other suppliers is excellent the prices are acceptable and far better than most other on line stores. I would use a local HBS if I had one. I don't have a high class Maltster in easy reach. £30 for 25kg still works out at £1.20 per kg try getting that price by ordering it by the kilo like I used to do. It's all down to individual needs. I need people like Rob to keep me brewing. I will never complain about retailers prices what I will do is change supplier if I feel I can get a better deal somewhere else (my car insurance company has just found that out :D ).

Fortunately my LHBS isn't that uneconomical for grain compared to the online retailers (£29 for 25kg of pale), he's not so good for hops though at £5-6 per 100g. So any online orders for grain are usually combined with yeasts and hops. From now on I can see myself sticking with the LHBS for the basics but the hops and more exotic grains will still be online orders.

as he's explained .. if he has to pay VAT then he cant do anything about it ... as i said earlier i thought it was price increase + vat but as rob explained it aint . So still happy days and i did get it the next day as usual :thumb:

I don't know the full in's and out's BB.....but I think there has been a reclassification of grains and the VAT they are subject to for the homebrewer.
I thought you'd have been up to the Acorn to see if they could help??

ATB :)

No grain for brewing isn't classed as food stuff and i don't think it has been for a while.

But the reason why Rob is charging VAT is because we have all spent so much with him that he has reached the VAT threshold.
