Tonight i had my take on southern fried chicken. Except i live in the north, it wasn't fried either. But it was a hen that was alive this morning so very fresh. With spicy potato wedges and mashed carrots and peas with fresh herbs.

I've had a marathon tank filling day today and i'm knackered so sitting in front of the telly with my brain turned off and food i could eat with my hands was perfect.

mmmmm free range freshly killed chicken... *licks lips* i cant wait till i can be in that situation

I Partridge a few weeks back.
I wasn't very keen, it was too fragrant for my tastes.

V you didn't like the Connie Bluebird either  Do your taste buds need a rest :?: :)

Nah, Vossy's just a heathen.

Oh yeh, i'm eating cheese flavoured nachos with mayo and some lemon pickle i made following a JO recipe. It's really bloody good actually. It's been in the fridge in a jar for a month now and has mellowed just nicely. :D We had kebabs for dinner, cooked on the outside oven.

Sounds good MEB. We're having one of those good autumn days. Very bright blue skies around 14C. Just had a cheese and beetroot sarnie for lunch.

Do you have a recipe for fish were you marinade it raw overnight in lime juice and then add flavouring herbs and spices :?: We had some there last year and still remember it :thumb:

beetroot... this wasn't inspired by last night's River Cottage on channel four by any chance?

i'm eating my usual friday lunchtime treat and stinking out the office in the process  ... cheesy chips and quarter pounder cheeseburger from the chippy next door but one :D

Hey H Fng W is just catching on. Us northern peasants have been enjoying beetroot for centuries. He'll be eating pigs trotters and sheep's knackers next ;) and showing the urbanites how to dig a garden.

Pulled pork, using this rub:
http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/getrec ... m&id=26257

cooked in my wood burner oven for 7 hours on lllllooooooooowwwww, with coleslaw(all veg from garden) and a sweetcorn salad(also from garden), sauted potatoes, and some amazing bread from a local wood fired bakery. All I can say ...................... FECKIN STUNNIN  would have gone well with the mild I have fermenting at the moment :(
If you like pork I can only recommend this recipe with the highest regard. Its cracking, and as you pull the pork mix in the pan juices with the pork...

This will be done again, very soon and the wife is mentioning this should become a house standard

I recommend this to all forum members as a to do, its that good... just whatever you do don't insult the dish with a piece of lean flavourless supermarket pork, at the end of the day its a cheap cut and worth spending a few pennies more on :thumb:

can i have the recipe for the beetroot curry please!
But of course :thumb:
900g beetroots
2tbsp veg oil
1 tsp whole cumin seeds
1 bay leaf
1 small tin of chopped tomatoes (drained)
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
Chill powder to taste (1/4 tsp ?)
salt to taste (3/4 tsp ?)

Peel the beetroot and cut into chunks or slices
Heat the oil in a medium sized pan, when hot put in the cumin seeds and bay leaf. As soon as the bay leaf darkens (a few seconds) put in the tomatoes, other spices, salt, beets and 350ml water.
Bring to the boil, turn heat to low, cover and simmer for 30 to 35 minutes.
Beets should be tender with a nice thick red sauce :D
