What got you into homebrew/craft beer? My gateway beer was John Smiths Extra Smooth oh I've moved on from there.

I suppose mine all stems back to my grandparents wine making and dads beer making so you could say i was conditioned from a young age

My Mum and Dad used to brew a few pints when I was in my late teens, no idea what it was but it was cheap :)

My first true home brew, as in done in my home, was a Cooper's English bitter kit, not bad, but brewed with white sugar. I've just kegged off another one that I mixed with brew enhancer, the sample tasted the same as the first, but definitley lingered on the tongue longer. I'll see what it tastes like after 4 weeks or so of maturing in the keg :D

Since my first brew I've been busy :D Six kits in total, 1 drunk, one being drunk, two in kegs maturing and two in fermenting vats to get me ahead of the curve, got another kit waitingn for an empty vat :D

Due to the evil influence of this place ;) I've also started to brew turbo ciders, since getting the bug for this I've started over a gallon of the stuff in various different flavours, they'll not be ready for drinking for a while, but working out what I want to do keeps me out of mischief :D

Badger beers convinced me that ale wasn't warm brown old man drinks. That was only around a year ago. How my mind has been changed as I sit here drinking a 12C home brewed chocolate stout.

Im only 15 as it is so and have been brewing since i was 12 lol my dad gave me a smooth at xmas i loved it so much i made some cider then moved onto kits then onto AG now i want to be a brewer when im 18 lol.

You realise it wont taste the same when you reach 18.

My main reason was i couldn't get hold of wheat beer (which i first had at a German beer fest ) unless i was in a large supermarket and even then not many sell it by me so brewing it was an answer plus i remember enjoying the hobby when i was 15 .Now because of brewing i've gotten into lots of different styles of beers :D

watch it thats how i started on this damn slippery slope! ;)

when you turn 18 (or before....) throw out your brewing cv( and educational one) out to the local micros, im sure someone would bite your arm off, enthusiasm and brewing skill count for a lot at low level comercial brewing. get matey with the local micros , take em some bottled beer for the gaffers to try, if you imporess em you never know what might happen. good luck.

youll never get rich at this game though!

Well, I've always gone for a proper beer when in a pub, but my earliest was probably Butcombe bitter (and that would have been well over 20 years ago now). They are still going and doing well which is great as I'm fond of all of their beers, and they are quite local to me.

I properly started drinking in the Edinburgh Uni Union bars...

Cally 80/- was pretty much pennies a pint, especially since working in the union got you beer tokens!

From there, well, it was a bit of a beer oddyssy... :drink:

My first kit was an extract bitter kit, but I can't remember the brand. It was in 1970 when aged 14. All I can remember of it was that it was **** and didn't taste much like bitter. But I do remember that the smell while it was boiling was wonderful. But at 14 I was more concerned that I needed to get rid of the smell before I was caught! So I gave up homebrew until the early 80's when I again got the bug and did an extract clone of Theakstons best bitter. This time it was a success. :thumb: And the rest is history as they say.
