Today I’ve been studying my car gearbox because it’s developed a fault - when I accelerate hard and fast (kick down) the gearbox drops into neutral. D’oh!

This calls for a strong ale so that’s what I’m having, my 6.3% strong ale.

Clint is right first port of call is fluid level or restriction of fluid
or it could a Transmission Control Module "TCM" or possibly a worn torque converter.
Hopefully it will be fluid

Sounds expensive H! Could be something simple like fluid level..
I wish! Jaguar tell me I need a new gearbox, a snip at just under £10K. A scholar at the pub tells me it’s a common fault caused by failing solenoids in the mechatronic valve block. Having done my own research I think he’s right and if so I think it can be fixed for maybe 1K. 🤞

TCM is a possibility but the solenoids are more common. I’ve not really considered the torque converter because I’m not aware it can produce this fault.

The torque converter is a component that transfers power from the engine to the transmission. If the torque converter is worn out or damaged, it may not engage properly, leading to the transmission shifting into neutral. A qualified mechanic can inspect the torque converter for any signs of wear or damage but go down the other routes first hopefully fluid or fluid change could be a cure.
Do get a mechanic to do the fluid replacement if you go down that route as it is not a simple job on Auto boxes.
I did one years ago and it took me 4 plus attempts of emptying and bleeding before it would change smoothly and not jump into neutral which is your issue.

Dark revolution bottle share which coincided with the new running club so an interesting cross over. A lot of barrel aged tonight which it turned out really isn’t my thing. We had an omnipollo collab mead which was something special and someone brought in a buckfast comparison to sample which was a bit lost on me being a southerner I’ve never actually heard of it before!

Today a great tasting of our six Best Bitters. Different recipes and yeasts were used for each of these beers.
Two of these beers will be submitted to the HBCon in Germany.
The selection is difficult, three have already been chosen, now one has to be eliminated.
