Last year I went to the brewery Robinson's that brew Old Tom superb old style beer they have stopped putting it into casks bottles only. But still had some there to try. I really had to force myself to have a half !!!!!

Sneaky early taste for my Youngs American Amber ale means it still has a hop haze (no means of cold crashing)
but tastes good -slightly sweeter maltiness than an IPA, with grapefruitey hit from hops.

Its won lots of awards over the years. Is it the 150 anniversary of Old Tom or something. Was up north before Christmas and all the nothern chains - Booths, Morrisons really pushing it in bottles. I have a quite good clone on the go - was going to enter it for dark beers but poor lad doing the judging already has about 20 overstrength ones to get through

Seems a lifetime ago I sat in their little bar in downtown Falmouth (my daughter is at Uni down there) and enjoyed sampling their brews - picked up a few from the brewery on the way home !

Both the beers superb 300 laps can almost chew the hops like opening a tin of liquid hop pellet's. As for Random Rules its now burning my taste buds with hops. Both great beers canned 3 days ago so uber hippy freshness o_O

Yep I reckon 4 pints would do wonders for an abscess provided they dont then give you metronidazole

On my shortlist to have a crack at replicating. @cushyno sure weve had this conversation before but how is the Saracens Head and the Heatons bridge faring in these difficult times?
Not been to either booza in a while. Saracens is (was before lockdown) a popular spot for a decent meal. Heatons Bridge last time I went in was on a hot summer day after a walk along the canal. A small hot and humid bar but a decent set of pumps and some character. When this lockdown business is over I'm going to visit all the pubs along the canal from The Ship in Haskayne to the The Ship in Burscough.

Edd Mather has recipes on his site for Old Tom, taken from Robinson's original brewing records, from 1899 & 1929. Worth a look! I keep meaning to brew a batch of the 1899 one; looks a lot lighter (in colour only! :laugh8: ) than the current incarnation, which isn't unusual. Many of the strong ales that are still around appear to have got darker over time.

A couple coopers irish stout while watching the wrestling (I love the wrestling ) it's not carbonated which I don't mind but iv just been on Amazon and ordered proper measuring spoons and a tub of youngs sanitizer so all set for bottling the grapefruit ipa now that's for next week though
