Sneaking a quick sample of my second AG brew ("Timmy Taylor Landlord" from the CAMRA book). I brewed it on Saturday and it's cleared down nicely. It certainly tastes like beer, which is a good start.... decent malt, very dry finish, but a bit lacking in body... fingers crossed the flavour will round out over the next couple of weeks.

Timmy’s is a nice beer. When you say you brewed it Saturday do you mean it finished fermenting on Saturday?

I’m never sure how close the CAMRA book recipie is to the original, with this one, it does however make a really decent session beer.

as for me I have had a bottle of Shepherd Neame 1698 Kentish Strong Ale, it’s not bad, and drinking it immediately after a 12% imperial stout it makes for a great palate cleanse.

Heh - no, I mashed on Saturday morning, and pitched it that evening with a starter made from SO4 (yes, I now understand that was probably a bad idea). Once the fermentation got started it went very fast: it literally did blow the water out of the bubbler (!) so activity had stopped by Mon morning and it was down to 1012 from an OG of 1044'ish. Gave it another 24h to settle a bit, then racked it off into the corny on Tuesday evening.
Probably shouldn't be drinking it yet, eh?

I'm absolutely sure you're right: the real McCoy is a very complex tasting beer. Myself I'm just pleased to be able to make something that's drinkable, being so new to the AG world. The results are a million miles from the gloopy crud I used to make when I last brewed from malt extract kits back in the late 80's :-)

Absolutely you should if it tastes good! Almost all beers improve with age though so you won’t be getting the best out of it just yet.

We have a thread called what kit beers are you drinking tonight but not what homebrew are you drinking tonight or what bought beer are you drinking tonight. I've no problem with bought beers but let's separate them from people's homebrew. Anyone can buy a beer from a shop but it's a craft to brew good beer so let's celebrate it.

Just have a beer and chill my friend. (But only tell us what it is if it's homebrewed ;))
