So I’m doing this wine kit at present.
I’m wondering if the juice is actually Cabernet.

No reason to think otherwise, nothing on the packaging/ingredients to say it’s mixed with something.

What are the thoughts on this?

What kit? Is it something premium, i.e. £50 or more for a 30 bottle kit?
It is this kit.

It says:
Solomon Grundy Platinum is the latest addition to the hugely popular Solomon Grundy range of 7 day wine kits. There is no need to purchase any extra sugar for these kits, and none of the quality from the original ranges has been lost.

So whether that means it’s grape juice with sugar already added, or it’s just grape juice, I don’t know.

There is no mention of sugar in the ingredients.

Well like I say, this is the first kit I’ve ever done so I don’t really understand what is meant by ‘quality grape concentrate’ as it says on the ingredients.

I usually just destem, split the skins and ferment.

It is grape juice that has been heated slowly to evaporate the water to concentrate the liquid. The sugars remain in the concentrate.

It's never going to be top notch grape juice with kits in this price range but it will make something perfectly drinkable.

I'd assume it would have a to have a quantity of Cabernet juice in it to be called a Cabernet kit but I guess it can be blended with other juices. Only real way to know would be to contact the manufacturer.

My very naive understanding is that if it says a particular grape then it must come from that grape, whatever the quality, region, country, etc. However, if it says grape "style" then it can be a blend of grapes, fruit, or anything else to give a reasonable approximation to that flavour profile.
