wen making homebrew after bottling wot on average is a best before date set

 Hi griff. the stronger the beer the longer it can be left, as a rule of thumb if your OG is 1.040 then leave it a minimum of 4 weeks to mature if it is 1.030 then 3 weeks and so on.

I started a Headcracker kit in March ,which I have been reliably informed, will take 9 months to mature, this is for Christmas.

I have now finished brewing kits and am now going onto AG.

As this is an ace site for beer brewing there will be others better informed than me as to the best before date but IMHO I don't think that the majority of brews last long enough to "go off".

Hope this helps Richard G :drink:

If its kept cool and dark Griff then it's good for over 12 months.......so I believe, never last long myself

Watched that Oz Clarke and James may drink of England thing last year and they went to some place that had archives of bottled beer from like 100 years ago. It really is a good way to keep beer for a long time. If it tastes OK, it's OK.

That was the royal vault at the bass brewery (now Molson Coors) in Burton.

Beer is out of when its hazy smells funny and tastes funny, if it looks good and tastes good its alright, & the stronger it is the longer it keeps.

couple of hundred years for Barley wines.
