On a standard gas hob, how hot can you get water or should I say how hot can you get how much water?

:wha:

I don't really know what the question is mate.

Do you mean

How hot will a pot of water get on a single burner

There is a point where when a large stockpot just won't boil on a domestic gas ring as you can't put enough heat into the water. don't know any figures though.

Indeed, hence my question. I was thinking how to get around this. Is it wiser to use 2 pots rather than one large one etc.....

I can get a rolling boil in a 30 litre pot BUT it's on a double gas ring and both the other burners, going full pelt. And I have to use a floaty - but with this setup I do get a proper vigorous boil.

For my 65 litre pot I have ordered a pig-tail element, which is 3kw. The plan is to get a boil on very quickly by using both the double gas ring and the element, and then turn the ring off once the boil is underway.

If it's a standard gas hob you're using I suspect that a full brew length boil will be impossible to achieve.

I use the wok burner on the Mrs' rangemaster when doing 20L boils - it copes with this no problem

Thanks for your input guys, picked up a Buffalo 40 ltr electric bolier, se how that goes temp gos up to 110 on the dial...
