Hi I brewed my first wine kit a Solomon Grundy Merlot and forgot to rinse out the excess VWP (Made up a gallon with two tea spoons of VWP swilled and poured out of container) So I don't think were talking about a lot? The wine is about 13-14% tastes nice but metallic, also sort of like sweet port! Is it safe to drink? does have a lingering boosy/chemical smell to it but again not bad?

I'd like to share, thinking ill drink a couple of bottles first (in case its hangover juice) just to be on the safe side?

Question: Is diluted VWP harmful?

I'd drink it. It's bleach based and that breaks down to salt, oxygen and water. Maybe try and glass and leave it and see if it grinds your gut pipes.

I've made up bleach solutions and left them in a demijohn and had loads of floating mould that looks like a dead mouse growing in it a few times.

I don't use VWP for the reason it isn't a no rinse cleaner/sanitiser.

It has to be rinsed after use unlike other products.

I feel the taste and smell may more than likely have been generated by the leftover VWP. Don't think it will be harmful if consumed in such small amounts, but wouldn't like to say.

Try the VWP website for answers or the product instructions.

I know beer brewers have to be careful when it comes to bleach based cleaners/sanirisers but I don't think it's as big a problem with wine, I use Milton tablets they are no rinse and only take 15 mins to do their thing.

As for the wine I would leave it a week or two and see how it smells/tastes.

From the VWP website:
I forgot to rinse out the equipment. Will my beer/wine be OK?
All equipment should be rinsed before use. Anything left in a fermenting vessel will affect the taste. Any active bacteria feft may kill the yeast.

Doesnt say anything about harming you
