Help, I have been looking through some rhubarb recipes and its suggested to add a vitamin B tablet. It looks like all the brew shops, ebay etc are out of stock. Is this an essential product to add or is there something else I can add in its place?

I see there are different vitamin b tablets at the chemist B1 B2 B12 ashock1 I have no idea what I need and they are at least double if not triple in price. Thanks

Normally the required vitamin is B1
It acts as a yeast energizer only a small dose is required.
It is normally included in recipes that are intended for higher alcohol content or wine musts that may be deficient in nutrients such as flowers.

Proprietary wine nutrient mixes will normally have it included in the formula,You can tell just by the smell if your yeast nutrient smells a bit like Marmite it has it in.!!!!

Does it really make a difference ????
YES.!!

PS. you can use Marmite actually (its the old fashioned way.) about 1/2 teaspoon per gallon is the dose.

Sorry for the delay in my reply. 1st day working after 6 months off work after an ankle fusion.asad1

Bellow is what I was reading.

Marmite 😉 I did wonder if I could use this as a substitute.

Thanks for your words of wisdom 🙂

I seem to remember members have used Marmite as yeast nutrient in the past and i think tomato purée can also be used.

I found this if it helps -

Can tomato paste be used for yeast nutrient?
Alternative sources for Vitamin B includes Vitamin B supplement tables (not capsules) from your local pharmacy – a quarter tablet on a 5 lt fermentation – a teaspoon of Marmite (a yeast extract) on 5 lt, or Tomato Paste (one small can of concentrate on 20 litres of fermentation).
