I've only tried the odd sip as my missus won't let me any more than that! She's loved the first batch, so much so that she went out and bought the vimto/ AJ and left it in my Homebrew cupboard ready to do this weekend.

It's a fruity little number, hasn't carbonated that much despite a large 1/2 tsp of sugar in each bottle, but that's not stopped her destroying this first batch.

I made one nearly 2 weeks ago and its still bubbling. I did not add tannin (as i forgot) i will hopefully sample at the weekend, i will then carbonate 1 and leave one still

Might have to give this a try. I like Vimto lol. Will definitely try it soon.

Thanks for the feedback fellow breweranians! Ive decided to have a crack at it. I have all the ingredients sat around at home anyway so it would be rude not to

Ill post some pics when i start it.

Being of a foreign persuasion I was wondering what this Vimto thing was that you were all going on about, and was therefore pleased to discover some (in a can) down at the local UK imported goods store. $2.50 too, not a bad price for an imported drink can. So I bought one, and drank it. Now I understand.

It was godawful. Actually that doesn't quite cover it, I've had energy drinks that taste better. I can't imagine brewing it into something worthwhile - in fact I'm not sure I can imagine coming within 10 feet of it without being overcome by a desire to run out of the store and throw up in the gutter.

This is like bagpipes and haggis, right - a colossal joke perpetrated on us foreigners?

I love vimto. You need to try and get your hands on the cordial to fully appreciate just how good it is. The only hot drink i eill drink is a vimto made with hot water. Which flavour did you try? i only ever use the original stuff.

A hahahaha love your reply kiwi!

I love it, although tbert33 I think Kiwi has tasted it pre-mixed (probably carbonated) in a can, it's identical to the cordial and mixed to the ratio the manufacturer intended so I don't think the cordial will be any different in kiwi's eyes.

I like it (the drink) but so far haven't liked this brew but as I've stated plenty of times I reckon that is due to the malic acid and tannin I added. I'll leave a review of it after its has a few months maturing.

Black pudding and haggis, mmmmmm

I dont knoe BigBBunc... im not too keen on the canned stuff. Ill drink the cordial like a baby with milk!!!

Im going to start mine next weekend... having a case of too little DJ at the moment... so thats been added to the cristmas list. Lets hope the big guy thinks ive been a good lad this year :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Yup, the stuff I had was carbonated and canned... didn't know there was a cordial, or for that matter, tbert33, multiple flavours. The can was purple. Looks like the can on the left of the Products section of their web page.

It's one of those drinks you either love or hate. A bit like marmite.

A bottle of this stuff was given to one of my mates as part of his Christmas present, I hadn't tried it for a while (nor had I planned too), but he drunk it and said it was beautiful.

I intend on finding whatever supplies I've got left of it and trying them to see what it's like, maybe it's finished maturing (or at least to a point it's acceptable) and maybe I will like it :D

More thoughts to come when I have tried it.

With this recipe being for 5litres, if I want to make 20 litres do I just times everything by 4

It says add citric acid but doesn't say how much in the ingredients

Also is says once the yeast dicipates top up with juice again do you reckon I should only fill to 18 litres then another 2 once the yeast dicipates.

What do you mean by dicipates.

An finally where it says put in secondary unit for racking can I not just bottle it with carb drops and store or do I need to buy a keg with sealed lid

I would times everything by 4.

I had the same issue about citric acid so i added x1 level teaspoon. So in your case i would say add x4 level teaspoons.

I would leave some headspace. Sounds like you have it bout right with the 18 litres then top up by two.

When mine is ready im going to bottle it and prime each bottle with a level teaspoon of sugar. Not sure about a keg.

Well I didn't seen what the diff would be If I left in a keg for the 4 weeks o put in a bottle thanks for the help thou

Also it says add sugar for higher alcohol level. How much are we talkin can to much sugar Ruin it . If I did 20l batch would 1kg be ok. Do I use normal sugar or brew enhancer

I made this last night.

How much sugar would u recommend to add for higher abv. And if using extra sugar do I need extra yeast.

I've got a feeling I've used to much sugar and to much yeast
Is had half inch of foam in it within 2 hours lol.
