Im looking for a non rinse soloution for bottles and/or FV... i fancy the videne but i noticed that some others are not suitable for hard water, i have been told we have hard-ish water as we use boreholes here in surrey..i just want to rinse for 30 seconds and go..with videne, can i just peg them to the tree and then bottle straight into them without drying ?

i would get star san http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... _227g.html
you need to use distilled water (£2 for 2.5l at homebase) after cleaning just spray on and walk away ,no rinse you use 1.5ml per 1l of water and just use a sprayer (get a syringe form chemist to add correct amount of satr san to water) works out very cheap as it lasts ages (poss a years work in bottle of star san)

i use deionised(distilled) water with videne for cleaning, works out cheaper than starsan because of the size of the bottle, you need to ask your chemist for it, but as a precaution i have read some people use videne then rinse with clean water after just as a precaution.

What interested me was that in the thread about cleaners and steriliser dilution rates it is stated as being a no rinse soloution which puzzles me as it has a colour to it

Have just bought some videne, and live in a fairly hard water place...

One question, would any spray bottle do? e.g. could I just use an old window cleaner (windowlene for e.g.), or dettol spray bottle?! Give in a soak and rinse in hot water, and then mix up the videne solution?!

i use a spray bottle i bough for a cheapie £1! i didnt want to run the risk of using a spray bottle which was used for something else, i use the £1 sprayer to clean bottling arms, funnels etc, the recommended dilution rate for videne seems to be 1.2 ml per litre, i used up to 1.5ml per litre, to clean bottles i use the pump bottle cleaner sprayer attachment thingy which seems to be made by the same people who make the red bottle tree you see advertised on brewing sites, its perfect for the job, well worth the investment

I use Videne and my water is harder than your water..

Seriously, I use it with bore hole water from Portsmouth water - I believe if you softer use water with the correct PH and so on then it lasts longer. The rule of thumb seems to be if it's still slightly coloured its good, if its gone clear chuck it.

I use 1.2ml per litre of water and just use on the day :thumb:

It does last longer with a lower pH. I think Aleman adds a bit of acid to make it last longer and some of the Iodophors used in the dairy industry are acidified.

any one got a link to the bottle sprayer attactchment ?

Think this is the one he's talking about:

Altho would probably be cheaper (better value) to buy the bottle tree if you don't have one if it comes with it... (sure I've seen people say they use the tree to spray, anyone confirm?!)

Im not really sure what you have linked me to there ?.... i wasnt asking for a link to a spray bottle, the post further up seems to suggest there is a long nose attatchment thats goes inside of the bottle body and sprays the inside rather than just pointing the nossle of the sprayer down the neck of the bottle, i imagine it looks a little like the 'little bottler' people use to fill bottles...i have an 80 bottle tree but not interested in the rinser..its over priced.

Basically, one of the first things in the link (well, was yesterday, but not when I clicked on it just :wha:):

http://www.copperkettlehomebrewing.co.u ... tle-rinser

As we both said though, they are quite over priced...

the link above posted by lovelldr is the thing i was talking about, if you bottle a lot then the price outweighs the time it saves you, i sometimes bottle 2 batches at a time, this thing rocks

Some people have made a network of copper pipes attached to a steamer, which you put a load of upturned bottles on for a minute or so. Steam is a great steriliser.

This is what I mean
