In my experience, breaking the nicotine addiction is easy; breaking the smoking habit is very, very difficult. Eventually after trying every single 'alternative' and failing, I gave in to the fact that there is no hope for me and embraced the habit with gusto instead of spending my days with this giant monkey on my back.

I think you really have to want to quit for it to be a success thinking if you quit you could buy something you cannot afford now with the money you save is nor going to work and that was my problem and the reason i failed so many times, i loved smoking especially in the pub with a pint and after a big meal when you feel full to bursting (Christmas dinner) and if it had not been for my workmate dying so young (i think he was 59) i would probably still be smoking 30 a day now.

The "something in your hand" habit is a real problem, especially when your drinking!

What I did when I ran into that problem (it happened on Day One!) was to make myself what are called "Worry Beads" in many places of the world. I bought five beads (four small and one large) from a local market stall in Toulouse and threaded them on to a six inch (150mm) length of 25kg braided fishing line that I cut off a fishing reel.

I knotted the line at both ends so that the beads couldn't fall off so that I could spin them round in my hand, stiffen them up like one of those spring-loaded puppets, count them backwards and forwards and up and down etc etc!

My God I had some fun with those beads! Whenever I was awake, I doubt if they were out of my hands for more than ten minutes for the first year or so!

I kept them in the pocket where I usually kept my **** and ... :thumb:

... when I didn't need tham any more, I gave them to a friend who has also managed to give up smoking! :thumb:

Long while ago, i know but i used the chewing gum... I smoked for around 13 years until i kicked it.

You need to do a bit more research. The chemical responsible for popcorn lung is not permitted in vaping liquid.
Vaping also introduces less nicotine into the bloodstream, hence vapers use the machine more often. Nicotine as a drug has been shown to have benefits for long term memory. And if you hate the idea of the vapour and think it could be harmful, please don't go anywhere near a smoke machine in a theatre, night club etc, as it's the same chemicals used in those as in vape liquid.
Not having a go at anyone, just adding a bit of balance to the discussion

I understand but if I were to go to a theatre, club with smoke machines then that is MY choice to put myself in that position.

It would not be MY choice to have someone sit next to me in an indoor public place puffing their heads off blowing their vapours around.

Why should i put up with their "habit" when all i wish to do is breathe air as normal/clean as it can be?

If what you say is correct the first part of the article I referred to (my little bit of research) in my post is very misleading.

Wondering what is Popcorn Lung? This is a newly found disease, which is also called Bronchiolitis Obliterans. It reportedly causes coughing and wheezing, shortness of breath. In some extreme cases, the progress of popcorn lung symptoms may even require the patient getting a lung transplant. Researchers detected that the chemical components of 39 out of the 51 flavoring fluids used for vaping contained diacetyl– one of the causes of Popcorn Lung. So what does this mean for vapers? Read on to find out.

Had a day out at a very popular family attraction today and all the bloody vapers were out. One guy was puffing away on something that smelt of parsnips. Wtf

Lol! A 'vape bar' opened in our town a couple of years ago. Presumably they all sat around sharing flavours and discussing them in depth like at a wine snob club or summat? It's shut now anyroad.

AAAARGHH! ITS NEW AND I DONT LIKE IT! BAN IT AT ONCE!
ALSO BAN ALL THIS DRILL MUSIC ETC AND ALL THAT LOUD CLOTHING THE KIDS ARE WEARING.
I do enjoy the irony of peoples great concerns about the health impact of vaping on a forum explicitly devoted to the manufacture and consumption of a dangerous and addictive chemical.
I used to smoke, switched to vape now do nothing. Some people enjoy vaping and I'm not sure why I'd want to stop them from enjoying that. Can't we all just have a little laugh at how much like a dragon Wizard they look without seeking to stop them enjoying life? Personally I find excessive perfume and deodorant to be unpleasant but I'm not going to tell people how to do what they do.

Good points. I have no problem with people doing what they want as long as they are informed and aren't harming other people. However I do think that vaping shouldn't be allowed in small enclosed public spaces. We aren't sufficiently well informed and, apart from it being unpleasant for others, we don't know if it's doing harm.

First of all no one is saying ban it what they are saying is it should not be allowed on trains and busses because we do not want to breath in the **** they breath out.

We choose to make and drink our home brew no one forces us to do it!

It is already banned on trains buses and other places we are discussing why there is now no reason to allow it in these places.

I come from a generation where smoking tobacco was advertised as being "cool" and now the same companies are selling Vaping Products!

I remember 'Deeply satisfying Barons'' and Marlborough cigarettes being associated with clean mountain air and cowboys ...

... and the same companies are shovelling the same BS our way about Vaping.

"Safer than cigarettes?" ... :?:

... I refer you to the late Steve Irwin who didn't smoke cigarettes 'cos they were dangerous! aheadbutt

I find it horrendous and have no problem telling guys that they smell like a tart's boudoir and ought to bloody well grow up a bit. I,of course, smell like a real man... a heady blend of engine oil, tobacco smoke, sweat and testosterone. The burds go ape for it.

Posts removed - This thread as i pointed out was not about banning vaping!
