Gents,

just a quick one on the use of Campden tablets. I usually add a quarter to the mash water at the start of heating and quarter to the sparge water at the beginning of heating when doing an all grain. I thought I would rough it with a kit today (Magrove Jacks Simcoe single hop). Following a kit there is obviously no heating of water except the 3 litres boiling to mix the malt extract. How do you desolve the tablet with a kit liek this?

Thanks

I use my bottling bucket, put 23 litres of tap water in it, then dissolve the Campden tablet in this water, leave 5 mins, then use this water to fill the kettle. I then use the rest of the water for topping up the fermenter, using the tap on the bottling bucket to help aerate the wort.

Just crush it and stir it in, it doesn't need hot water to dissolve. Otherwise you could crush it into a cup with a little water in it, stir till it's dissolved then add that to the wort.

cheers for that gents; Steve - when putting in a cup of water I presume just use cold/tepid?
