Dutto....those kardashians are famous for having massive arses. Or is that being massive arses.....? Anyhow they're a right shape. ..how do you get famous for that?

A hundred years ago all the poor people had horses and the rich people had cars.
Now all the poor people have cars and the rich people have horses.
How the stables have changed......

Now, the rich people have horses AND very expensive cars.

Yes, If it could somehow be made to work because I think it could would be a real leveller between the the richest and poorest in society

To be honest the appeal to me was it prevents poverty and a sense of entitlement to benefits while leaving those who choose to pursue wealth alone (more or less) rather than robbing the rich to give to the poor. Also it gives people more choice, if you wanted to pursue music and play in pubs etc without making it big your small income on top of UBI could sustain you or you could work part time as well and be comfortable. If you plan to not work for no reason you can move somewhere housing is cheap and live without working, therefore freeing up housing in a high value area instead of pleading its my right to live in London. Basically it streamlines benefits, leaves no one starving but most of all gives everyone freedom to pursue what they want in life. So please someone find a way it can work.

This likely deserves its own thread, i'm posting here as UBI gets a late mention.

Sounds a bit worst case scenario to me.

As was discussed in the recent robot thread it's obvious machines will be doing a lot more of our jobs over the coming 20 to 40 years so the government needs to take this on board and start planning for it now, having been out of work once for 12 months I cannot imagine what a life of no work would be like and I am glad at my age I will not have to worry too much about it I do however think our governments couldn't run a cock up in a brothel so imagine it's not going to be an easy ride for our kids.

.

All mods have the ability to close threads, delete threads/posts and ban members, if it gets out of hand later i am sure one will be on hand to deal with it.

Indeed

I was going to wait until page 8, threads like these don't really ripen and get juicy until the non brewers log in and step it up a few notches.

A small example albeit local government. Close to Where I live there is a development with over 900 homes being built since the early 00's and still growing. There has been no increase in infrastructure apart from some roadworks. Schools and clinics are the most basic requirements that were overlooked. A large portion of buyers also bought there for the local school. They've since been told that that school can't cope with the numbers so some of the kids will have to go the lesser performing local school.

What's worse is the prices, a huge increase in supply, the demand is still increasing and the prices continue to rise. affordability for most, particularly younger, first time buyer families is not possible or leaves things very tight at the end of the month

To each according to their needs, from each according to their abilities. Good old Commies . . .

Hi!
The slogan, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", although penned by Karl Marx reflects many earlier Socialist thinkers, writers and activists. This is a Socialist principle and nothing to do with Communism.
Come on - if you are going to spout your ideas, get your facts right!

If it came off Karl's pen that's close enough for me and as for the rest of it I just can't see it working, cynical maybe but it's not an outlook that often lets me down.

Surely "austerity" is an urban myth? The government are increasing debt. We haven't even balanced the books, which is still a long way from paying the debt back to reduce the interest we pay. So you want to borrow more on the assumption that the Tooth Fairy is going to pay it back?

How does it have nothing to do with communism, as far as I can tell the principle applies to both socialism and communism equally. Please let me know if i'm wrong.

Maybe a tooth tax could balance the books.

Hi!
Because communism has been demonstrated to be an unsuccessful experiment in government, whereas socialism is alive and well.

......... From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!"
It was previously said by some socialists and also is in the bible Acts 4:35 "And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need."

So Karl Marx copied stuff from the Bible just like the Socialists.

I'm sure that the Labour Party will be proud that they are following the Christian principles of equality.

When considering the Bible, Jesus threw out the Money Lenders in the Temple; and yet I still see them advertising their wares on TV at 1,212.5% APR. (i.e. "I give you £10 and after a year you give me £121.25 in return.)

That is called usury and every time I see these adverts I think "Who would go for such a loan? An uneducated poor person or an Old Etonian with a Trust Fund in the Cayman Islands?"

Maybe Socialism isn't the whole answer but it surely beats the hell out of the current system. :thumb: :thumb:

PS

I still wonder what sick minded person stuck the 0.5% on the end of an APR already at 1,212%. Maybe it's a bonus for selling his soul to the Devil.

Is it capitalism that's the problem or is it corporatism and it's ability to lobby and influence politicians?

A key difference between the biblical idea and socialism is it was voluntary (as you can see from Acts 5:4 "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal?" not forced confiscation of property/wealth under socialism.
In my opinion the new testament (unlike the old or the quran) does not promote and isn't against any form of government and only gives ideal to people personally.
Any way i'm starting a socialism thread and an interested in your response.
Cheers.

Looking forward to participating in the new Thread.

Todays advert has upped the usurious lending rate by another 83% and it now sits at an APR of 1,295.5%.

I suppose that this is the "Capitalist Ideal" that is meant to beat Socialism.
