Guys
Bought some Perlenbacher pils from Lidl, £5:99 for 8 half litre bottles. A very drinkable brew at 4.9% that comes in a bottle with a twist-off crown cap.
Just wondering if anyone has tried reusing this type of bottle? Can I save the caps and sterilise them to use again? I put one back on (after finishing the beer, obviously) and it appears to reseal ok. Or can I put a new cap on?
As a noob to the homebrewing craft, I'm just starting to build up a stock of bottles so any help would be much appreciated.

Regards, Jay

Ps, sorry the picture is sideways!

I've got some beer conditioning in some of these as we speak, although I won't be able to tell you how successful it's been until I open one up and see if the seal was good and the beer has carbonated properly. I also managed to get a standard crown cap onto one of these; it kinda hooks itself onto the thread. As a matter of course I always keep used crown caps - I find they go back on much more easily if they been used a couple of times. And I reuse them until they won't keep a seal any more/are bent out of shape/start to rust.

Be very careful with these bottles, i had a few from Lidl, the glass is really thin and i would not recommend them at all for home brew. The caps don't seal properly, and the neck of the bottle is so weak and brittle it almost caused a nasty accident. If you compare the weight with a normal beer bottle you'll see what i'm saying. VERY DANGEROUS.......

Thanks for the info, guys. Looks like I might have to drink more of a different brew to build up my bottle stocks. What a terrible task! ;-)

Unfortunately, the Grolsch is back up to £2:50......
But they are doing bottles of Bass for £1!
Bottle supply problem solved!
:-D

But then you will feel obliged to drink the Bass

My local Morrisons is doing Hobgoblin Gold for 99p a bottle (it's OK) but BEWARE the bottles unless you have a bench capper. There are numerous threads on this site about capping Hobgoblin bottles but they work OK with my bench capper.

While we're on the subject, Old Peculiar at Tesco £1.24, has done wonders for my bottle collection..............
