If you're talking about screw-topped PETs like 500ml cola bottles or litre mixer bottles, then yes, I've left beers in those for several months and they've been fine. Just remember to wrap them or store them in the dark.
Well to be more specific i am hoping to bottle my stout in... Jacques Glass Cider Bottles at 750ml, and store them in the pantry under the stairway, i have been told that it essential that the bottle should be 100% air-tight and this can only be done by capped bottles but i am unsure if this advice is concrete.
Understood. I've tried some of that Jacques fruity cider when they've been giving tasters away in Sainsbury's, and I've seen new bottles being opened, and it didn't seem to have much of a fizz, merely a light sparkle. I'm not sure if I would trust those bottles to hold much pressure, or would want to re-use the screw tops.
Can you not get hold of Magner's / Bulmer's bottles and use crown caps?
Very true about the light sparkle comment by the way :)
The thing with using the screw tops was to save me money of which i was hoping would avoid me buying a capper and crown caps to cap my bottles with and thought that using the screw tops would be a cheaper method due to that i had just got a few cheap cases from the local shop, enough to store 40 pints worth and wondered whether or not they would be reliable... But i dont want to jepodise the quality of the stout and was hoping to hear some positive feedback about screw tops.
As for the magners/ bulmers bottles... We dont really drink either in our household just cans really as do rest of family and friends
