I have been making wine from carton apple/grape juice for some time. And adding carton grape juice to my homegrown grapes to top up. I havent been on this forum long and have just started reading the "WOW" threads. Can someone enlighten me as to what WOW stands for?
Also I have found that when doing your last racking of the clear WOW half a bottle of cheap commercial chardonnay added to the gallon doesnt cost much but adds a lot to the vinosity of the wine.

Wow is wurzels orange wine we make it with just juice and top up with just boiled water after 2 or 3 weeks fermentation. Never tried topping up with juice or wine

Thanks! I never made orange wine, because my great aunty used to make marmalade and orange wine when the oranges came into the shops once a year (this was about 1955) She made it in a big crock with bakers yeast. She gave me a sip when I was 8!! it turned me off orange wine for life.!!!

give it a go. I just had a quick taste of mine when racking and even though it's still very young it tastes pretty good! :thumb:

That reminds me of the time, in the early sixties, that my father gave me some of my grandmother's home-made wine as a 'tonic' when I was feeling poorly. Nan had a reputation for making very good wine so my father was puzzled when I screwed up my face in obvious dislike. 'What do you think of it?' he asked. I replied 'it's a bit sour'. 'Nonsense,' he said, 'it's good for you, have another sip', which I did, this time screwing my face even tighter. Then he had a gulp himself and caught his breath. 'It's vinegar' he announced, to the amusement of my mother. My grandmother used to bottle her wine in the quart beer bottles that were common then, and also vinegar. Unfortunately there was no indication on the bottles of what was in them. It did me no harm though and I wasn't put off wine, or vinegar. I still smile at the memory.

You should be ok, Wurzel's Orange doesn't actually taste much of orange, in fact there are quite few wines which retain much of a flavour of their main ingredients. It's a fruity white wine, but when I have given bottles to workmates and not told them what it was made from, no-one has yet identified orange.

Yes it is difficult to tell sometimes. A lad brought a bottle into work years ago and nobody guessed it was OAK LEAF!!
I think with country wines the base is usually sultanas+orange+lemon, and the leaves/flowers etc just add colour or tannin.
