Hi all,
Any suggestions for getting the FV cool enough for correct fermentation?
I'm having trouble getting the temperature lower than 23 degrees anywhere in the house at the moment.

I'd hate to have off flavour beer after a 6 hour brewday.

Cheers,

Terry.

Sit it in a bath of water but regulating the temp can be a problem your best option is a fermentation cupboard a fridge is ideal as its insulated and cools then add a temp controller and heater to get ideal temp for fermenting

A water bath suits me but I do stand the FV on a bench in the garage ( which is warm ) and they are out of the way... Too hot throw in a few ice cubes too cold and I switch on the submerged aquarium heater in the bath.... Just check the temps each day and adjust if required.

Hiya guys, Was just reading your posts, I had this conv. the other day as I was wanting to do a lager ( it`s the only beer I haven`t done yet ). Like green ninja I`ve nowhere in the house cool enough for lager yeast to work properly. The thing is Tazuk, how do you go about building a fermentation fridge? Getting a fridge is no bother, it`s all the temp control shieze I haven`t a baldy about.

Im sure theres a how to somewhere if you click the link on the sponsor bar cedartronics do temperature controller you can just plug straght in then you just need a 30cm heat tube from somewhere like wickes fit that inside and your sorted

Wow, I`m taken aback, I was expecting to be laying out the guts of £200 for temp control, £32 for both plus the price of a second hand fridge. Looks like the charity shops, auctions and second hand goods papers will be getting a wee rattle.

i got my fridge off freecycle :D try on there first :thumb:

Happy days, you two have made my day. Blimey it`s all coming together for me these last two days. Yesterday I figured out a way I can start doing AG that suits me without forking out big time dosh. Couple that with there`s 2 kits, hops, yeast, spraymalts etc. but most importantly a brand new sparkling white press. barrell is winging it`s way to me as I speak type. All my equipment is getting a good going over this night. As they say every man needs a hobby. We craft, we share our our craft with our friends and see the smile and we craft some more. Damn if that doesn`t put a smile on a our faces, then i`d have an ould ticker test.
