23 litres at 4.0%...... ha I wish....whatever, we will see what we get.

Its a variation on the brew as I've just found out that some silly person put an empty hop packet back into the fridge ! :oops: so I have no Styrian Goldings for the last addition, and have had to fall back on the old faithful, Fuggles ...

Anyway its a lightweight straw colored beer for summer drinking..

Overnight mash on 67C

Now waiting for morning....timer is on for 0700 to heat HLT up ready for me after coffee... :grin:
 
You have really got into this overnight mashing PD. :thumb: :thumb:

I look forward to seeing how pale it actually is :lol: :lol:
 
Its no hardship at all GA, an overnight mash really shortens the brew day and makes it so so easy.
My neighbour is showing an interest and hopefully tomorrow evening after my brew in the fermenter, we might put another one on for him, and he will do the brewing the following morning, under my expert tutelage...... :D

Unfortunately he hasn't much space in his house and has 2 young kids,,,, so if he gets to enjoy it, it might become a regular occurrence. double the fun...
 
Yes You can't beat overnight mashing makes for a more relaxed brewday with hopefully fewer cockups :lol: :lol: .

I've got 34 litres of the insipid looking brew at around 1034 ( temp corrected ) and there's still an amount of sugar to be added to the boil according to the recipe, so it looks like its going as planned.
( I usually up the grain and don't bother with extra sugar, but I'm being different this time )

Must say I prefer me darker beers...... ;)

oh yes edit...

re started my sa-4 yeast from the fridge in a weak DME solution to be added to the fermenter later
 
1100 and the chiller is on........

easy brew day today no problems looks like I'm near to my targets, will check when its down to temp.
 
readings of 1048 and 24 liters.... gives me a brew potentially of 5% and a brew house efficiency of 87%.......

damn ...missed me targets...lol.
 
will be a clear brew I think lot of protein break evident.....

I've revised my readings, left the brew for an hour after chilling and then into fermenter

gravity readings just before yeast added was 1.044....lost a bit somewhere ? so 4.2 % potential alcohol...more in keeping with my target.
 
as a treat to myself on a good brew day I took it upon myself to taste test my TTL made on the 5th April, which I know is not quite ready for drinking...but what the heck.

Its the clearest beer I've made so far, nearly sparkly clear without any sign of suspended yeast or haze. Taste wise its a typically well liked Landlord pint. The beer is carbonated and has bubbles all the way thro drinking....BUT...there's no darned head to it, which I find surprising. Its got my usual 400gms of wheat in the brew and previous versions have managed to have some head......
Hmmm will leave it for another week....Still very nice to drink tho.
 
yes I'm in love with it more each time I do it. Also underletting on a regular basis now I find that helps with hitting temps better.
Fermentation is being started quick since I have started " re starting my fridged split yeasts " on the morning of the boil, Into the fermenter at lunch time and going like the clappers just after tea time. ( dry sprinkling and it would be the following morning before the yeasts were working well.
All these little things help and come with experience.

Underletting.....

Instead of pouring grains onto the strike water in the mash tun and stirring them in. Grain is added dry to a bottom fed mash tun. The strike water is allowed to run in from the bottom and peculate through the grains.
It basically helps avoid the formation of " dough balls " and keeps the temp of the water constant, ( and its easier to do when brewing on your own )
