I underlet for the first time this weekend, wish i had done it sooner. I will be doing this everytime from now on :thumb:

How do you measure how much water you have added to the mash tun when under letting? I could hook my HLT up and do this but I'd be guessing at the way volume... :s

My HLT has a sight tube fitted which I have calibrated, but you can easily hold a dip stick in the pot market out in litres.

Yeah, I should probably get a sight tube sorted at some point!

Well its down to 1012 now, so that gives me a brew of 4.2% and hopefully I will be kegging it at the weekend ( if I get a gas cylinder ! ) Taste wise its very nice and pleasant has a slight haze to it which I'm hoping will clear before it goes into the cornie, otherwise....who cares....

If it continues it will get a tick against its name in my beer log.

The next question is if you get gas how will you carb your delicious brew?

a la "Craig" rock n roll under foot at 30-40 psi ? I tried it this weekend with my dobs best bitter, trouble is I've run out of cornies now

going to try a low pressure carbonation over a few days Simon. I'm not one for overly carbonation of my beers and I don't drink many lagers.

Did the rock and roll method work for you and was it carbonated more or less o/night ?

I'll let you know once I've sampled it lol! Going to release pressure then apply 3 psi serving pressure as like you unless its a weissbier or a lager I don't like my ales over carbed.

I just followed Craig's instructions on his kegging video.

My 1st corni I used the apply pressure and leave it for a week method , this worked well but due to the strength of that brew (summer in the citra 7.3% ) more than a couple of pints and I forget my name and start to dribble ;)

I'm still learning regarding the best length of pipe, pressure etc with Cornies but so far I think their great, I still brew 23l batches and bottle the rest for give always etc.
I still bottle my weissbiers as I prefer this method and the plastic bottles are good for taking to friends etc.

My problem now is I want more corny kegs and am just about to pull the trigger on 2 from candirect but need swmbos approval 1st

I havent managed to go stainless like you yet Brian but I am very interested in the speidel Braumiester, I just need to compare costs between a stainless 3 vessel pumped system plus my time to build versus parting with the euros for the spiedel.
Very hard to justify (to swmbo) as my mango barrel HLT and cool box mash tun make good beer. glad to see youve been brewing loads I just haven't been able to keep up due to dads death in Jan and all that entailed and starting a new job in March. I no longer work in the fizzy drinks business no more stainless fittings :( but now work in F1

Still playing , but I have currently from keg: 1.5m 3/8" then reduced down to 1m 3/16" then back up to 500mm of 3/8" to go into Dalex tap, if I rinse the glass and tilt I can get away with 1"-2" of tight head at the minute (apologies for mixing metric and imperial measurements!)

Keg sits in kegarator/fermenting fridge at 12C gas cylinder sits outside the fridge.

Corni #2 has dobs best bitter in so this will be served direct from keg sat on stone garage floor covered in homemade insulated jacket (left over foil insulation from loft conversion) and very low serving pressure. I HATE ice cold bitter :nono:

Trying to make room in brewery (garage) for dads old chest freezer so I can get 4 kegs and 4 taps :party

yes I was looking at the Speidel Braumiester. It would have entailed a bit more saving !

But the main reason I opted for 3 vessels was I wanted to be busy on brew day....
I liked kit beers but looking forward to doing a kit and it took 30 mins to put it on..then what...I was bored again.
I know the Brewmeister is a bit mot complicated and involved than that, but its still very much automated and once you set it up ...off it goes along on its own...( OK not quite like that but you know what I meam=n )

3 vessel brewing is hands on all day, well it is the way I do it no pumps etc. so it makes me feel that its me thats brewing and having fun.not the machine.

Go 3 vessel stainless and get yourself a few more cornies....... :D :D

Yes I know what you mean, it does seem a little how to say " German" but the flexibility for the various temp rests for weissbiers was quite appealing .

With a 3 vessel build I get to enjoy the fabrication etc, also I love my PID rig for temp control etc, I need to really understand Herms etc that way I can slip brewery purchase past swmbo  don't you find you turn into Golum when it comes to corny kegs, mmmmm shiny my precious!
