Hi All, this may sound daft but, I've just put my tom caxton dark real ale into my barrel after 8 days in the FV. I did as the instructions said and left it in a warm place for 2 days. Today 26/09/13 I placed it on my bar next to my wife's homebrew Rose, 2 barrels exactly the same but one bigger than the other, dark real ale barrel is huge! Should I open the cap and let the pressure out or shall I just leave it. I've made Norfolk Nog twice, John Bull Traditional English Ale, Geordie Larger and the Rose wine but I've never seen the bsrrel expand like this before. I used the yeast supplied and 500g brewing sugar and 500g dark spaymalt. Any idea's. :drink:

I would put barrel on side with Tap at top.
Open Tap and release some pressure- this way only gas comes out and not beer :thumb: .
The cap would be hard to shift with that high a pressure!

Did you check you gravity before placing in barrel?

J

Hydrometer reading 2 days in a row of 1006, just I screwed the lid a wee tad and my god did it hiss. That was and hour ago, the barrel is looking normal now. thanks pard
