I put on real ale tom caxton brew just with sugar as normal but was looking at reviews online and other people have said to try with 1KG of spraymalt. I've never used this before, does it involve pre-boiling everything before or do you just fire it straight into the fv instead of sugar?

thanks
mark.

Exactly as it says on the bag, direct replacement for the sugars you use, I often go 50/50 with brewing sugar, gives it a bit of a boost... rounds the flavour off nicely. Give it a try! :thumb:

nice one, thanks for the reply. have you tried the caxton kits before then yeah? any good? i had a wee taste of the malt extract from the tin and it tastes better than the coopers one, if thats anything to go by then it will be a gd brew!

I'm a big fan of Coopers kits, but recently did a Tom Caxton Dark Ale very successfully, all of it was bottled, the beer that I started drinking was not the quality that it is now, so I'm thinking that ageing in the bottle has been a winner in this case...

yeah its best to keep your mitts off it for a few months eh!
I've just won a tom caxton lager kit on ebay for £4.99, what a bargain!

Most ofwhat I do is Tom Caxtons I like the dark real ale

I always use dark spray malt with my kits but do tend to use 1.2kg

little tip for you is to put the spray malt into the fv first because if there is any steam about things get mess very quickly :D
