Got 5 gal ag ready to go into barrel [sg 1035 fg 1005] seems pretty clearish been in fermenter 7 days now trouble is only got some leaf gelatine for finings and from what i can gather this stuff doesnt seem to be a popular choice so wondered if id be ok just barreling without ? cheers ia :?

You can barrel without finings as given time it will probably clear on its own if not then use finings next time can't comment on using gelatine as a fining agent as i've never used it :D

I never use finings, once fermentation is over I crash cool in my fermenting fridge.

Does the biz for me. :thumb:

Just kegged up a pale after cold crashing for 10 days in my garage.

1st time at it, but bejesus it's clear! Think I will cold crash everything (bar hefes and wits  ) from now on and only fine if its something special.

So for those that do use finings what would suggest? Bear in mind I will be bottling.

Cheers.

If it's a 23L brew, dissolve the gelatine in about 250ml of hot (80C) water and gently stir it into the main batch of beer.
Cool the beer as much as possible and it should be clear in 48 hours. Prime and bottle to your preferred method, but be aware that conditioning can take twice as long when using fined beer ;)

Cheers. So presumably cooling the beer will cause most of the yeast to go dormant, but they'll come "back to life" again when warmed up in the bottles?
