Having tried it both ways with the standard wows I really have not noticed too much difference. That said I have now read that glycerin is a prime suspect in the headache causing world or is this just an excuse for over indulgence in the alcohol?

I stopped using it a long time ago and if i remember correctly the reason was i didn't have any and the finished wine was no different.

There has been a bit of discussion about glycerine in the forum and again if i remember right someone said you would have to add a minimum of 4 teaspoons to a DJ (not the one i was adding) to notice any mouth-feel.

Yes I remember seeing all that but what about the supposed headache?

I can honestly say (and have said it here in the past) i have never had a hangover since making my own wine and that is with or without Glycerine.

How are these people who say it causes headaches using it?

I always thought that the headaches were caused by the sulphites in some wines as some people have a sensitivity to it.

Not sure Chippy but I Definitely read it on here. I will now cowardly bow to your far greater ability to search the archives.

I often wondered if the cheap white wine we used to drink had something in them that our juice wines (WOW's) didn't and that was why my hangovers stopped when i started drinking my own.

Might have been this article: http://winefolly.com/review/wine-additives/

Besides sulphites, so2, tannin and other ingredients that you might be slightly allergic to. Acetaldehyde is seen as the potential cause, added to clarify some wines, although believe this stuff is created by the liver while breaking down alcohol.

Also: Congeners - these are substances that are produced during fermentation and are responsible for most of the taste and aroma in distilled drinks (whisky, gin, etc). They are known to contribute to symptoms of a hangover. Examples of congeners include esters and aldehydes.

Dehydration etc all add up to a great hangover.

Hi I have mentioned about it giving headaches on this forum with in the last few months It gives nothing to wine, it does not improve it , i never use it in wine or for any thing , theres some sauternes recipes out there that say use it but its not needed, Glycerin in the form of Glycerol is added to some beers in hot countries like India as a preservative. The after effects of drinking this stuff can be Headaches, Dizziness, bloating, being sick and many more . It not good for you if you turn a bottle of kingfisher beer upside down in a glass of water all the Glycerol floats to the top, it makes the beer taste bitter and gives a rancid after taste, thats why most of those eastern beers have to be drunk ice cold has there vile otherwise.

I was only commenting this week that since I've been doing home stuff I've not suffered from hangover or jadedness !!

Have been adding glycerine to some wows and can't tell the difference so won't bother when it runs out.

Problem with first point - it reduces my defence mechanism against school night supping [emoji15]
