It is easier to weigh acid for water addition than to measure the volume of small amounts, but most software reports it in ml for additions, so to help anyone else who like me finds it easier to weigh:

For common solution strengths
1ml of 80% lactic acid = 1.2g
1ml of 75% phosphoric acid = 1.6g

A x

You can get small syringes that measure accurately from the internet. I have on old one from a child's medicine bottle that can take 5ml and has markings at 0.2ml increments, or maybe quarter ml increments.

Dead easy to use and I would probably say more accurate than weighing.

My bottle of 80% lactic acid came with one of those syringes. I think it was from TMM

I'm guessing Doctor Anna knows a thing or two about syringes 😉😂

Oddly enough I do have some of those around 😂 👩‍⚕️. Problem is I can never remember which was used for Chemsan and permanent pen doesn’t stay on the plastic for syringes- weight is more accurate when using the milligram scales I use for water salts, and most importantly of all…. Little syringes don’t reach very far into large bottles.

Anyway I’m not trying to persuade anyone, it’s just something I thought might be helpful 😎

I doubt very much that it's more accurate than weighing. A better way might be to dilute the acid to 10% and then use a graduated syringe, but weighing would still be more accurate. Using a lab burette would work, but what a pain in the arse.

So accurate weighing: Run upstairs and get the bathroom scales. Put the mash tun and its contents on it. Add the required amount of acid and stir well. :coat:

To get your stuff into your small syringe from your big bottle...pour some stuff into the bottle cap and suck it up from there.
Some of these acids are a bit corrosive if you spill them on your marble worktop. Not least CRS, which is my preferred tipple.
